I figured I'd ask here first before goin straight into looking everywhere for one.

My boy is currently ridden in a Neue Schule full cheek french link snaffle and he goes wonderfully in it at home schooling in both the field and the arena. In fact he even does showing shows and dressage comps well in it.

The problem is jumping out. Either at shows or just at clinics. He decides to get his head down and tank off at 100mph towards every jump. I can sit his bucks now so he doesn't seem to bother with those anymore. I can just about get him back after a battle, but it's not enjoyable and I want to be able to go out to jumping shows/clinics and have fun.
i know that he loves jumping and that's what we're best at at home.

The instructor at the clinic suggested changing his bit, even if it's just for jumping out and about.

Any thoughts would be gratefully received!

You could try a NS elevator bit if he goes well in NS ones. If that's not enough, try the Shires Tom Thumb copper roller bit. The rollers stop them grabbing the bit. I use one out hunting as my horse leans badly. The rest of the time I ride in a NS baucher.

I use a NS Universal on a strong horse. I use 2 reins so that I can ride on the snaffle most of the time and bring the curb into play if she tries to put her head down and power off. She, too, is fine schooling at home. It would probably be worth talking to Heather Hyde about your horse.

I use a Neue Schule pelham with Waterford mouthpiece. At home schooling etc, I use a hanging cheek snaffle and he's lovely. But jumping and hacking this works much better, although he's still really really strong. As Pearlsaginger says, I also use two reins and I don't use roundings for jumping as you can use the curb rein as you need to.
