Hi, i have an ex racer for loan over the summer, he is currently ridden in a french link snaffle but he is very reluctant to accept a contact. Has anyone any suggestions of which bit to try. Would a mullen mouth help?

Frankie never liked a French Link but goes better in a Neue Schule Starter. His issue was quite a big tongue in a small mouth and the french linked pinched I think whereas the bit he is in is shaped and lozenge bit is shaped not to pinch the tongue. It's also quite thin which helps with the fact there isn't much room in his mouth.

But ultimately it's just trial and error.

I agree with the above. My ex racer is in a myler style lozenge bit. It is thin so allows for swallowing e.t.c.

As a rule ex racers have never been taught how to accept contact, so it is a case of patience and getting then used to the bit.

Good luck
