Right so I bitted baby horse for the first time a little under two months ago. He started with a simple straight bar loose ring rubber bit, which he was fine with mostly but the bit size proved a little bit small for him.

So upon internet research as I was searching for a new bit (and trying to find one he might like better) I decided to go for a Shires Equikind Ripple Eggbutt. Big mistake, he HATED it, absolutely to the very core of his soul, he wanted the thing dead and gone and he was perfectly willing to do this himself.

So we ditched that one and about a week ago I decided to try him in mum's TBs NS Loose Ring Lozenge bit. He was nice and relaxed in it (once he realised it wasn't the hateful one he had before).

Now as he is a baby and his mouth is likely to change as he matures, I am loathe to buy a £60-70 bit when I might need something different at a later date. So in my search across the internet I came across this one:

At half the price of the NS but looks quite similar and Stubben is a name that, in general, I do quite trust.
Should I go for this one, or is there another type of bit that would be good for a sensitive, small young mouth?

Advice/opinions would be, as always, very much appreciated!

When you say young, how young do you mean.

I can't say that my horses went up a bit size as they got older past 4.

He turned 2 in June and as I'm wanting to take him to a small local show soon(ish) for experience, he needs to have a bit in his mouth.
He's not going up a bit size, I have no need to go up a bit size, it's the style/type of bit that I'd like the advice on.

From what I've gathered from him, he seems to prefer a thinner mouthpiece rather than a thicker one, and he seems to prefer the loose rings rather than an eggbutt.

Oh they look quite good. I think Eldonian is the make of my older lad's 3 ring Dutch Gag (I say think because I got that from a friend who told me to give it a go and then sold it to me when he went so well in it!)

I quite like the look of the Harmony one, as the angle of the lozenge looks more similar to the NS ones.

Have a look at the Eldonian bits on that site - my sensitive lad goes really nicely in his D ring 'balancer' I would think the loose ring harmony or balancer would suit your horse?

I've found some of the bits with lozenges are a bit bulky, but the eldonian ones are nice and neat.
I also use a Eldonian lozenge snaffle for one my Arabs who has a sensitive mouth and he goes really well in it they are really well made bits in my opinion.

Thanks for all the replies guys!
I think I'll go for the Eldonian Harmony one for him, as I mentioned that one looks the most like NS one so hopefully he'll take to it as nicely as well :)

When I did an in-hand show with my two year olds I used a loose ring straight bar vulcanite. Pretty certain I didn't pay much for one and sold it on ebay for about what I paid for it.
