Just wondering what is the nicest bit for mouthing a youngster? I have always liked the rubber bit just because it isnt metal. Not sure if that is too thick though? Also should i get one with rings or full cheek etc?
I usually start off in a loose ring snaffle and then adjust as needed (the vast majority don't need anything else, but sometimes the odd one will go better in a straight bar rubber snaffle).
The very first thing I use is either a rubber or happy mouth straight bar. Literally just long enough that the get the concept of taking and releasing the bridle (less dramatic if they get an accidental bang on the teeth).
Then they get switched to an anatomical lozenge - either D or eggbut. I don’t use full cheek straight away to reduce the risk of them rubbing/catching. But fairly soon I may switch to full cheek if they are one that needs extra steering assistance!
Hormonal Filly, if I had one later in it’s education doing what you are describing I’d try a Mullen nathe
