Hello
I am considering getting a breastplate for going XC as my saddle can slip sideways at times plus it would be good to have a neck strap for emergencies! Not sure whether to go for a racing breastplate or a 5 point breastplate, which would be the best style for stopping my saddle slipping sideways?

ETA saddle tends to slip forward rather than back, as pony is croup high/low wither and round barrel, so hopefully a breastplate would keep the saddle where its meant to be rather than pull it forward?

Thank you for any advice

yeah i realise a breastplate wont stop it slipping forward, just wanted to make sure it wouldnt make the slipping forwards worse!! but looking for a breastplate to help prevent the slipping sideways, thanku :)

I have one built in the same shape, I find a 5 point BP and a stud girth are the best combination for keeping everything still.

5 point definitely helps stabilise, considerably more than a hunting breastplate: I fell off late last year when the saddle went out the side door during that 4 jumps on a 20m circle exercise - I realised afterwards that pony only had a hunting BP on as we were using his 5 point on another one at the time. Was a very painful learning experience - I ALWAYS use a 5 point on him now!

I play horseball and we use the breastplate to hang onto when picking up, so we need our saddles not slip!
Recommend non elastic girth, personally I prefer non elastic breast plate and really like the Libby's web/neoprene one!

Thank you so much for all the replies! I really appreciate it! definately going to get a 5 point breastplate and hopefully will give us a bit more stability for our first BE 80 next month!

Now just to find a nice one that comes in pony sizes for my 13.2hh! they all seem to be cob/full or one size fits all (which im sure it doesnt lol!) any suggestions on a good make would be fab!

thanks again for all who took the time to help me out :)

thank you crazymare the evision one looks lovely! i have emailed them re sizing as the smallest they do is pony/cob. is that the size you have on your 13.1hh?

Only other one I can find is shires, but evision one looks better!
