My horse gets a bit hot when competing to the point you can't canter around the warm-up, you just have to trot then canter four or five strides before the fence(warmup only) I have tried the syringes but they don't seem to make too much of a difference.

Anyone please? Was thinking of NAF magic? Was just wondering of other peoples experiences with calmers if they work or not? Thanks

Do you want a calmer that you give him every day or just for when you compete? If he's fine at home then I wouldn't put him on something every day. How old is he? My horse is on Magnitude by Equine America and that works, but he is sharp and has trouble concentrating at home and away!

I've tried lots of different ones. Different ones seem to work on different horses. I thought Horse First Relax Me was better than Magic. But another horse may be different. My current horse can sniff a supplement a mile away so I cant get any into him!
I had 2 horses that no calmers worked for. No matter which ones I used or how much I piled in.

He's fine at home as long as there are no jumps in the school lol! He just gets quite buzzy in canter whenevr theres jumps around. Apart from that he is generally fine at home and is good out hacking. He's 8, thats what i find with mine keeping him concentrating on what im wanting him to do, when hes in the ring he know's his job and is great just very sharp! thanks

I was thinking of Relax me as well, theres just so many these days to chose from i dont know where to start!

I've just bought and used Magic Calmer and it worked brilliantly right away :) though my mare isn't normally fearful or nervy in normal day to day life, she just started spooking when a new gelding arrived on the yard and she morphed into princess diva mare when separated from him.

Mine isn't nervy or fearful either, he's probably the boldest horse i have ever owned and thinks that he knows best lol! He just gets so buzzy and hot when jumping or warming up to jump! I think im still between the NAF Mgic and Horse First Relax Me! Hmmmm...decisions!

Just to throw another one into the mix, I have used Cavalor Calm in the past with great results. If I recall there was a banana taste off it that my current horse detested, hence not using it anymore. Previous horse didnt mind it at all, and had a bigger feed to mix it into

Maybe ask people who have a similar type of horse to see what they use, if anything? Try posting something in the 'Competing & Training' section? If he's bold then that is probably a good thing, you just need to get him listening to you a bit more!

What is he being fed at the moment?

That's one i havn't heard of, will go look this one up, as i said before there's so many to choose from! I suppose at the end of the day whatever one i go with it will be a wait and see, do they have loading periods or are they supposed to work near instant?

Have a look at equine science. I had the same issue with my daughters mounted games pony and their calmer is ideal. It comes in the form of a cookie and you feed it 45 mins before and it last 3 to 4 hours. Give Debbie a call and discuss it with her, she was really helpful. She will even send you a sample at a small cost to try before you buy a bag.

Good point might do that, thanks! Yeh its great in the ring, he gives you alot of confidence and has helped me start jumping bigger tracks again! But yes it would be helpul if he listened to me from time to time as he really does think he know's best lol!

All hes on just now is 1/4 scoop of speedibeet and 3/4 scoop of healthy tummy, he windsucks from time to time, hes on feedmarks settlex for that
