Best cheap car to tow trailer...........

Looking for a car for towing my trailer...........currently have a landrover freelander which i despise and is about to brake so need something cheap to run for towing......not too bothered about age of car so long as its a 4x4 and within the 3k budget......any suggestions?

is there even a 4x4 that exsists that is cheap to run?? i couldnt find one so keeping my little car and getting a 3.5t box. a decent tow car would be the ones suggested above but there all big engines so not cheap to run.

not cheap to run.........but a have a Mits SWB Pajero 'L' reg, similar ones are about £1.5k

The best is an Isuzu Tooper, I have just sold mine for £2800, W reg and immaculate. Tows as if there is nothing behind it, can tow 3 tonne with ease.

I have just bought a R reg SWB Shogun. Paid 1500 for it. Is in great mechanical condition (not the best to look at but i don't care as long as safe and reliable!) Obviously isn't cheap to run but I filled tank with £60 quid and its done 300 miles. Is much better on motorway on a run. I have had to change the whole way I drive (used to ahv a nippy little saxo). But if you drive sensibly it pays. Good luck!
