So Bodey and me are off to our first showing show (Ridden Cob and Coloured, plus Novice showing horse and rider) and I’m debating about buying a cheap hunter bridle (the ones with the thick nose band).

So firstly do you think it would suit him?

And two anyone recommend a cheapish one?

Three, do you think I should invest in a show cane too?

Four, am I completely wasting my time thinking Bodey can be a show cob?

Here he is:

Thanks,

1) Yes and its more correct
2) Shires, foreign leather but ok, about £30/£35
3) Yes, can get them for about £7
4) Cant help with this one, dont know anything about show cobs! But your horse does look lovely

Kincade do a flat hunter bridle - my double version was £30, think the snaffle is £25 - looks lovely on my 14.2hh Welsh Cob. I think your coblet would really benefit from one, he has a lovely head but still typical cob, needs a broad noseband!

You can get a plain leather covered show cane for under a tenner at most places and they really do set off the whole outfit.

I have 2 Shires and a Kincade. I prefer the Shires. Its the Blenheim range.
I think he would do well. He is a good stamp of a cob and has good markings.

Have you got any pics of him standing from the side? He does look quite nice, but can't see too well in your photo, would perhaps say his neck could be a little stronger and more muscled, but need another photo really.
He has a nice head and looks like he has a decent amount of bone which is good.
If you are going to show you definately should get a flat chunky noseband, like the one my cob had on below in first pic. Mine is 2" wide.
Would also recommend buying or borrowing a show cane, little things like this help complete the picture.

Good luck showing. PM me if you want any more info, I show at County in cob classes so have some idea of what is required of both you and your horse.

Thanks RedAdair, well I have just ordered a bridle and a show cane! I will try and find a side shot, Bodey is only 5 (6 this year) so still has some muscling to do. I know he isn’t really heavy enough to do serious showing but as this is just a local unaff show thought I would give it a go, it’s all good fun, right!?! We do mainly unaff SJing and Dressage.

This is as at dressage:

Sorry best I can do, I must get some proper side on photos.

Definately worth a go! He is quite nice and if you can get a bit more muscle on him even better, you should do well locally, I hope you enjoy it.
In cob classes it is correct dress to have horse in a double or pelham, unless it is a novice class, if he doesn't go in one yet stick to a snaffle, but if you can get him going in a double would be worth it as looks so much better.

Well it’s on the 22nd of Feb so I will let you know! The muscle is coming, must show you a photo of him when I got him at 3.5, doesn’t look like the same horse. But we are working on getting him stronger in my riding lessons (starting to work towards Novice). I have only ever ridden him in an Eggbutt snaffle (I backed him) so think I will stay in that for now but will try a double in the future.

Thanks so much for your replies!!!!
