Best cleaning products/ tricks for grey horse

I’ve just treated myself and booked my two horses in for a photoshoot but I want to make my grey horse presentable and as clean as possible!

What shampoos/tricks does everyone recommend to get a perfect white as he’s pink skinned so really does shine when actually clean.

He currently is rocking the yellow/beige tail look and mud so any help much appreciated. I’ve attached a photo of him from today so you can see what I’m dealing with (promise he is actually grey under al that mud?)

Denture tablets for tails!

Half a tube of them in a bucket of warm/hot water. Soak tail (below dock) for about 10 minutes. Wash well, condition generously. It's amazing.

I saw somebody post on the Highland Pony FaceBook page that a couple of hours of playing at the beach and swimming in the sea got her white pony super clean

I had grey/white ponies as a child. We would wash in normal horse shampoo and rinse, but the final rinse was with a 'Ricketts Blue Bag' a small block of blue powder that would dissolve in the water turning it blue. You had to be careful not to leave the tail in the bucket too long or there would be an old lady 'blue rinse effect'! If a blue bag was not available it was bottled blue ink!

For the tail I use either washing up liquid or washing powder in warm/hot water. I personally don't think shampoos ever work unless you buy the really expensive purple ones (which I'm not prepared to spend my money on...)

I use wahl diamond white shampoo - expensive, but it does work. I find, however, that prevention is generally better than cure so he sleeps in a no fill turnout to protect against poo stains and is spot washed daily!

Only if he won’t overheat, but I am lucky to have him at home so it goes on when I do the late night check around 10pm, and then off at 7am for morning stables ? if it’s still too warm then he sleeps naked, but this happens ?

I use fairy liquid all over and the platinum fairy liquid is much better than the standard one.

I use fairy liquid as well if I am not bathing too often as it's not great for the hair. I will always use it as the first round on the tail, 2nd round is normal shampoo (Alberto Balsom £1 stuff) or another round of fairy if the tail is particularly minging then do a good dose of conditioner (again Alberto Balsom purely because they smell nice!)

I then dab on sheep chalk - it's WAY better than any equine stuff and cheaper - whilst wet, once dry brush it off but have a special dandy brush just for it and don't wesr good clothes whilst doing it!
