Best clip for a spherical cob?

I'm planning ahead! My cob is spherically shaped, but light in the leg (well, for his body!). I've had him a long time, but everytime I've part clipped him with a blanket or trace, it always seems to make his barrel look even bigger than it is - and he's not naturally slim, which doesn't help. So, with a horse of this shape, is it better to go high or low with the clip - he's not in heavy work, but a bib isn't enough, lives out 24/7, is a very good doer, and is rugged as he needs. I generally clip off the neck, then at the wither go straight down following the front line of the saddle, then at the girth head straight for the stifle. In the past he's had a full hunter clip, but his work doesn't warrant it now.

I realise this may generate some photos - well I hope it will! - but I didn't think it would get a response in PG.
 
I think this shows the problem - clip too high and the belly below the line seems to stand out even more! Too low and he still sweats too much! And, big body little legs! (Old pic, we don't have the piebald any more).

The amount you've taken off with that clip on the photo i think you may as well do a full clip just leaving a saddle patch. It would look neater and you wouldn't have the "spherical" problem!

If you don't want a full clip then in my opinion you need to leave more on than you have on the photo.
