I cannot find a well fitting jacket easily and need some help. I need something that will fit a size 6 to 8 (closer to 8) but with long arm length as I'm 5ft 9 and have long limbs. Most jackets I find just don't fit nicely. I look terrible if they are baggy! I cannot tell you how bad it looks when I've got a number tied round my waist!!!

I would love a fitted jacket with enough arm length even if I have to take the arms down (just need one with a hem long enough). Most adult jackets start at a 30 and they are shapeless on me, kids ones well suffice to say I looked ridiculous with a lovely fitted body and the sleeves just below my elbows (gave everyone in frogpool a laugh though!) any ideas of a make I can buy off the shelf before I resort to having one made?

tbh with the price they cost anyway and paying for alterations you'll probably find it works out better to have one made, at least then it'll be exactly what you want!

If you could handle a tweed (I compete in everything with mine) Pretty Ponies do fabulous jackets. Im 5.5ft, but long arms and had horrible trouble finding a jacket to fit my waist (also size 6/8), then not be too tight/large across my shoulders...and preferably one in which the sleeves met my wrist..not elbow!

Not sure the PP website is updated with the size 6's, but they do offer them, you might just have to email to order it. Mine came next day delivery and fitted perfectly, but I was told I could easily send it back to have the sleeves made longer/short.

Mine was £235 though, still cheaper than the made to measure quotes we got..but still pretty pricey!

found it but their website is down as it's under new development! But will bookmark it and check it out. Thanks for that. I don't mind tweed, I think it's really nice if it fits properly!!

Yep, if you'll only have one jacket definitely go for a tweed one.

I don't think it matters what size you are, they never fit! I'm a pretty standard size 14, 5'7" and can't get a jacket to fit nicely, hence having them made which hasn't workdt out any more expensive tbh.

I got a pikeur sent by mail order and it wasn't the right size so need to find somewhere I can try theirs on. They aren't stocked in all my usual places as they are more expensive than the standard off the shelf stuff I am guessing. Thanks maybe I'll order a few at a time. Drove me nuts last year and ended up wearing an old one which looked hideous! Determined to get a perfect one (or as close to it) for next season, hence looking now. I won't be growing anymore (

) so once I get one that fits I'll be happy!!

alexander james or PP. alexander james i think will extend the arms on any of thier jackets and they are very reasonble for MTM. PP before thier website went down charged the same for MTM and off the peg. PP deffinately do a 6 as a friend of mine has a 6 from them.

if your going to olympia i think they are going to be there. if not you can always call them and they send out a good brochure.

My daughter is a bit like you, she is very slender & needs a slightly longer length in jacket & also needs longer sleeves. She tried various jackets but none had the right sleeve length. Eventually she decided to save up & have a jacket actually made for her & so we went to Equiport & she was measured & selected the material.

The cost of the jacket was a little more than the Alexander James that someone has posted but the fit is really fantastic. It looks so smart & is individual to her as she decided on material for jacket, collar, lining etc. They are to be recommended, expensive but a jacket that will last a lifetime (providing you keep away from the cream cakes)

I must say all the AJ jackets ive seen (all mtm) fit beautifully and are stunningly made so well worth the investment.
I so want an AJ jacket but cant afford it at the moment. im going to see if they have any offers on over the holidays or if they are at olympia!

im the opposite of you, im large bust tiny waist and hips so all jackets tend to make me look fat round the middle unless they are either MTM or altered.
doesnt help that im short either so i have to have jackets shortened as well.

Although they are expensive Pikeur do around 28 fittings, so you can virtually have your jacket made to measure.
We bought C's from a shop in Yorkshire that specialises in show pony stuff, they were so knowledgeable.
Just avoid one seller who comes up first in searches, the jacket we ordered first from him came three sizes too small.. and he blamed us! he works on the German size not the English one, so be careful.
