Best cream for mud fever?

So when I was an wagons nurse it was always a case of removing scabs with diluted hibiscrub, drying well then applying our practice "mud fever cream" which we used to make up using lots of lotions and potions.
I don't have access to this magic cream now so was wondering what's popular atm...
Sudocrem? Udder cream? Petroleum jelly? Any other ideas?
 
My vet uses Flamazine and mixes Betnovate into it - expensive but very effective! It was the only thing that would clear my horses mud fever up when he had it back in July.
 
Aromaheel is the best I have ever come across, healed scabs in a day or so no need for picking off. It also stays on really well while turned out. It smells lovely too!
 
Sudocream! Lash it on, rub well into/onto the scabs and then a good layer over the top to protect against mud and carry on turning out as normal. Within 24 hours I find the scabs start lifting on their own when I'm rubbing the next lot in. Wonderful stuff.
 
Zinc and caster oil cream. Apply to dry legs and it lifts off any scabs and then keeps the new skin clean and dry. The zinc is the active ingredient, and you can buy it for £2-£3 in any chemist or big supermarket.

Another vote for Aromaheel - I've got almost a whole pot of it at home as I bought it, used it for a couple of days, all the scabs came off and they haven't returned since! great stuff!
 
Someone recommended aromaheel to me, can't say I have tried since sudocream works so well for me. Having read the site though it says its antibacterial and antifungal (as is sudocream which also has anaesthetic properties) and sounds to me like it works in exactly the same way - couldn't see the ingredients listed anywhere so I wonder if it is perhaps a more expensive horsey branded version of what you can buy in the chemist?
 
So much of this around atm :(

I've been using mud fever cream from the vet and sudocrem, after warm hibiscrub bath. Kept in for a few days to treat then applying baby oil before turnout. Has helped keep on top of it but hasn't prevented it - horse has a second but milder bout of it now. Might try some muddy marvel.

Our local Tesco is nearly out of baby oil and sudocreme, they must think there is a spate of major nappy rash in the area !
 
Wow loads of replies! Just got back home from the yard - opted for sudocrem tonight as tbh that's what I had in the house!

Lol re Tesco running low in babyoil and sudocrem every winter!
