Ed has a white blaze and subsequently a pink nose - I have never had a horse with a pink nose, but am aware some type of cream should be applied to prevent sunburn.

Please can anyone reccommend me a tried and tested cream for his nose?

Price is irrelevant - but I would like to only apply once a day - so somethign that lasts is important.

Thanks

Our yard all tend to use the NAF Sunburn Soother. It protects and soothes and it smells quite nice too.

I use a sunblock (nivea I think) and if Herbie does catch the sun, sudocrem is brilliant for soreness and heals it within a day

My old mare was photosensitive and had a white blaze/pink nose. I found children/baby sunblock that was waterproof to be the best, I think I managed to find SPF60 in the local chemist. I also used the muzzle jumpingjack linked too with a fieldsafe headcollar. Good luck

someone recommended a gold label one a little while ago - said it stayed on really well, don't know what factor though.

I've always used the highest factor unperfumed one i could find that was on bogof - usually l'oreal. one year was reduced to using one of those kids ones that starts off coloured and is supposed to disappear when you rub it in.......poor donkey didn't appreciate a nose rub every morning so ended up going out with a green nose. better than a pink one though!

I use Amber Solaire kids factor 50, simply because it's what I use on myself! I have an allergic reaction to just about everything else but not this. I used it when I was in Cuba, applied it once a day (unless I was swimming) and returned home still pale and interesting, so 'tis good stuff.

Mine have blazes and big pink noses - I keep them with the cashel crusader mask with the ear and long nose on all the time when out - including over night and this keeps them without any burnt bits and is easier than putting cream on several times a day. It actually works out cheaper than buying lots of expensive sun block.

Barrier Sunburn Soother. My lad has been in days and out nights for years in summer until someone told me about this last year. His nose has been perfect in it - it protects as well.

He always hated human suncreams being put on and would get very grumpy about it, but he's fine with this stuff, out all day every day and it doesn't rub off like the human ones all do on him. Cheaper than most suncreams too.

Kids ones dont work for howie as they get broken down by saliva (i suppose kids dont need to worry about that!) so use the Leovet one (white tub - red lid) its been amazing- I put it on at 7am before work and his nose hasnt ever burnt even though I apply it very early. Its very very thick and sticky- hence why he doesnt get it off with his tongue/on the grass- you only need a little bit too- so the tub lasts ages. Beleive me its waterproof as its hard to wash off so when they go have a drink its still on. The only negative- is if i go in work clothes and he touches me with his nose i end up with white blobs at work (although they do come off in the washing machine)
