Poor pony has been bitten to the point of bleeding inside her ears and on her belly close to her udder. She is very sensitive to fly bites but won't tolerate sprays so I am looking for a cream (nothing too chemical or strong as she is sensitive).
Any personal recommendations gratefully received.

Nettex itch stop salve is the best I've found so far for my little sweet itchy boy. Have used it in his ears as well as face and body etc, stops them biting as is really thick and the hair grows back quite quickly :)

This ^^, midges hate it, I rub a smear on my hands then apply a very very thin coating daily when midge season all over his ears around his eyes and face, bit around sheath and areas he can't reach between front legs, but strangely although it's fantastic for midges it doesn't seem to stop mozzy bites or the big house fly type of flies,.

Neem oil works very well for my mare, its soothing and repels the midges. Its a bit messy and of course oily! It seems very effective though.

I have 2 with Sweet Itch and use Net Tex Itch Stop on their faces, ears, belly and sheath. It's excellent and lasts ages. I only have to use it every few days

Another vote for nettex itch stop, we have 2 horses with sweet itch and this is a life save, it last ages, soothes the skin, keeps the pests away and promotes hair regrowth. My mare would rub the insides of her ears to the point they would bleed and all the hair would be gone but using itch stop saved her ears and she actually enjoyed having it put on :-)

I made my own cream of melted petroleum jelly, add neem oil and Avon skin so soft while liquid, pour back into pots and stir regularly (think I did it about every 10 minutes) while it is cooling down. Solidifies into a very soft but very stinky and effective barrier cream.

ETA - yes, it was very greasy but the first year I did this she had a full mane and tail top and hardly had any reaction to bites on her udder & belly line. It wasn't a suitable environment for fly rugs but if I could have I would have rugged her.

I use good old fashioned germoline or sudocrem. Mine also won't tolerate sprays, so Neem oil routinely and the other stuff on any rubs (she doesn't tolerate Neem on broken skin).
