Has anyone got any recommendations please for a nice safe but comfortable harness. New dog (small Labrador size) is a runner - and I mean runner. Goes off like a steam train lol! We have invested in a strong Flexi lead so we can gradually allow her more freedom in our fields, but we don't like the way when she runs off to the end off it how hard it jerks her neck.

She does get a good run off lead, in the fenced paddocks and garden around the house but we are hoping to train her recall so she can also enjoy running around the fields with our other dog. In the meantime a nice strong but comfortable harness would be great, any suggestions please?

I would use a lunge line rather than a flexi lead because flexi leads are just too easy to drop or get pulled out of your hand.... but either way a harness is a good idea for use with any lead where they could hit the end at full run!

My boys have Hurtta Active harnesses. But Hurtta do lots of different styles. I'm looking at the casual Y-harness or weekend warrior harnesses for there next ones.

Yes we have been using a lunge line until her new retracting one came yesterday. I prefer the lunge line, but my husband and my son who also walk her prefer the retractable one as they think it is easier to stop the other dog getting tangled up in it. But I am not at all happy with how that new one jerks her collar around her neck.. PLus the lunge line feels very familiar and I have no trouble using it and controlling where it is and getting it out of the other dogs way, probably because of lunging horses all my life I guess? .

Plus I am not very good at walking at the moment and she almost pulls me over, not because she is actually being that bad just that I am being a unavoidably a bit feeble just now lol! They seem to think if she is in a harness even just for when I walk her it might be a bit harder for her to pull me over? Not sure if that will be the case but I am willing to try anything to still be able to walk them both around the fields with me.

I look at those ones and they do look really good, but my word the price!

My bitches have simple Björkis harnesses for daily walks, and when they where younger I used them for long line training as well. Don't think they're sold in UK, but found a picture of them online to show how they look:

And when I take them in my Broom to go for a walk elsewhere, they wear their Clix Car Safe car harnesses, both in the Broom, and on the walk.

I would normally probably suggest that you took her to the nearest dog shop, and simply tried the harnesses they had, but that maybe isn't doable due to the Coronavirus.

Yes that is exactly why I posted on here, would normally just do that but I am in the vulnerable list so just not doable for me unfortunately.

I have a Three Peaks one from Pets at Home and it's been great so far for the price - I think it was about £15.

We ended up getting a rescue dog a bit quicker than expected so needed something quickly and like you we have been shielding so couldn't try stuff on (plus dog was/is too nervous to take in and try stuff on).

My physiotherapist recommended against one's that cut across their shoulder muscle but this one passed muster.

Well we got this one and it arrived today - well my goodness what a total turn around in training! Jessie now walks out like a different dog altogether and we are pretty certain it isn't the first time she has worn a harness.

She now ambles along quietly beside Jem who is off lead and they both walk to heel with barely a suggestion from me. She has also stopped running off like a steam train and nearly breaking her neck when she gets to the end of the retractor lead thank goodness!true love dog harness.JPG Alls good so far and thank you all for suggestions.

Was going to suggest the Truelove when I started reading your post but see that you have got one now. Our rottie pup is now on her third one having grown out of the smaller ones and has always taken to them very well. It was certainly very useful having the grab handle when she jumped down into a steep sided stream and couldn't quite make the jump back out.

Yes eggs, that grab handle has already been used.... feral cats I'm afraid.......thick brambles and thorns no problem...off she goes! My son hauled her out of the hedgerow by the grab strap, she came out with brambles and thorns all over, no wonder we keep discovering little scabs and lumps on her.

The reason her previous owner wanted rid is becoming increasingly clear - she is a hunter and when on the hunt she just goes running blind. We have just received her pedigree papers and they didn't lie she is very well bred - Daddy was a FTChamp I can only think she would also have excelled in the sport lol! Good job we already love every little bit of her :D
