I am looking to change insurance company (from e&l) for my 3 weimeraners aged 3, 10 and 12, any recommendations or avoidances
Will just require vets fees and public liability
Thank you

Big thumbs up for Animal Friends, they've just paid out on a fairly big claim for me, no bother at all and the premium was the cheapest I found (Petplan was the same price for very similar cover but it was excess + 10% of the bill, AF is excess only on all claims).

Used to be with Direct Line who were good but took a minimum of 8 weeks to pay up.

Tesco were the only ones who would insure my 10 year old for a decent amount of cover with reasonable premium.

Both my 2 are with Tesco but I will only know how good they are if I have to claim. Pip is with the Kennel Club Insurance.

BC Thats worth knowing about Animal Friends, will get a quote from them when mine are due for renewal.

Another vote for Animal Friends here, my 7yr old Great Dane has had about £10k worth of treatment in the past year and his premiums stayed exactly the same, all claims paid direct to the practice.

NFU for me. I can not speak more highly of them

I have three ongoing claims with them. The last one was for over 3k (my little Jack ended up in the Royal Vet Collage North Mimms )

They have paid on time since 2008 for my first claim (Arthritis)

Second claim for Hypothyroidism since 2010

The third (last one) since September this year.

All three are claims for life and each for £4000 claim each year

I can not ask for more

They are not the cheapest but well worth it

Animal friends have given me the best quote out of all the reccomendations just nfu to try. All the policies i've checked have excess + 35% on older dogs (over 8) is this the norm?

I was with tesco then change to MORE THAN as tesco put the premium way up the following year, unfortunatley we have had a to claim 5k so far over 18 months with no issues what so ever, and the premium only went up £3 a month!

My 9 year old only has a £60 excess with Tesco - so must be something new they have put in place since I took out the policy- not looking forward to renewing next year now!

Sainsbury!! what I like is that you get £7000 worth of treatment per illness but it can take 10 years to claim or more and you are still covered. My lab had struvite (SP) crystals in her bladder and had lots of xrays, scans tests to determine it, we have only used about £1500 but they cover up until you reach the £7000. It's not a 12 month thing like the horses!!! They were very quick to pay and no quibbles.

I was warned to be careful with Animal friends they are underwritten by E & L basically the same company under a different disguise!

ETA Done a bit more digging, they aren't underwritten by E & L anymore but some company in Gibraltar which seems better but UK ombudsman won't help it if goes wrong (think that's what I read!) Good and bad reviews, I suppose you will always get that but they are much cheaper for a reason.....

I've read its better to go for a decent vet fee pot per year (lifetime) over a condition type as once you reach the limit your on your own which in some cases could be sooner rather than later, where as with the pot it renews each year.

I think More Than have introduced an excess with % of vet bill for all dogs now so check policy and some people have come unstuck lately with a few companies (halifax) moving out of pet insurance so they can't renew their lifetime polices and have dogs with pre-existing conditions.

Glad to read NFU have been good to pay out, we are with them and while i'd prefer higher vet fee cover, just can't afford the premiums to do so at the moment.
