Best dog insurance?

Vets medicover

Have looked at changing to this company, have you claimed from them, if so how much did your premium go up percentage wise?

To OP I am with direct line, very good at paying out but dog now 6 and am paying double what I was when she a puppy!

E&L are very slow to pay up and you have to check their figures, because they can be a bit oops, we underpaid. But I reckon the best thing would be to put £25 a month in an ISA or equivalent. And then if things go wrong, use that to pay. If things stay right, you have a little nest egg.

I've not had to claim under vets medicover yet but a work colleague has her lab with them and has had to make numerous claims for allergies and skin problems. Her premiums didn't go up because of claims only due to inflation. They really do only have one price and are v prompt at paying out and will pay vets direct

Oh thanks I will have another look.

There are those Vets who really aren't keen on certain insurance companies, because of the historical problems that they've had getting them to settle their debts, and don't forget, if your insurance company wriggle out of paying for the treatment, then the dog owner is still liable for the debt. I would check with your Vets to see who they recommend.

We insure through the CO-OP and it's about £10 a month, £2k cover for Vet's bills, and everyone else says that they're problem free. We'll see!! Now that the DG's dog is insured, we'll probably never claim. The last dog I put down, uninsured had £3k spent on her by the time that she was 2 years old. Eventually, she had Pannus and was blind.

Alec.
