My pup is 11 now and his diet consists of boiled chicken and a small handful of dog mix.

We've used a variety of mixes over the year - to be honest he doesn't always eat it and it's really just to bulk up his food.

He also gets various supplements from gold label to help his joints and general condition.

I'll admit to being one of those awful owners that just buys whatever dry food offers the best deal and has the word senior in it and my parents insist on buying him bakers complete because "that's his favourite".

Can anyone recommend an alternative - he's pretty much perfect weight wise, his teeth are fine for his age although he tends to prefer chewy food than crunchy food - has never liked crunchy dog biscuits even as a puppy!

Thanks in advance!

Our old girl (15yro lab) gets a variety of dry mix as she is also a bit fussy! She gets bakers complete for breaky and then the royal canini (sp) breed specific or senior which she seems to like, not to crunchy, spread over two meals. Little and often works best for her due to her arthritis meds.

i've tried my gang on all sorts, some which they really didn't like, but the popular ones have been: Bakers complete (which they loved), Chudleys Classic (ditto), and now either James Wellbeloved or Burns, both of which go down fairly well... the piggy ones aren't gluttons on them (as they would be with squidgy dog food) but they all eat enough to maintain weight well.

Sandy is alternated between the Skinners Mature one and Aurkey (sp?) mature and shes doing well on them :) Yellow Dog is on them too but his food is bulked out with Natures Diet wet meat to keep the weight on him.

Will was very sicky (Lab 15yo) but I only had him 8 months. He was mainly raw with a bit of P@H senior mix and vitalin gold with goats milk which he kept down so I stuck with it.

The only time he gained weight was when I left him with my Nan and mum for a long weekend and they admitted to him getting cake, cheese and sandwiches and if they went out he had wha was left of the picnic (sausage rolls etc) !!!

Mums 12 yrs old Lab is on Fish4Dogs. He absolutely loves it and his coat is still shiny even though he is poorly bless him. Before he went onto this he was on Arden Grange (which is what my spaniel & mums Retriever is on too) Would say well clear of Bakers, horrible stuff.
