My horse is on woodpellets but they're very dusty and affecting him. What is the best dust free bedding? Im thinking of going back on shavings/easibed. Has anyone used rapport/auboise?

Thanks

I use a mix of wood pellets and Aubiose and find it works very very well, with little waste and little dust, they seem to complement each other, so you could move over gradually and see what mix works for you.

Aubiose isnt at all dusty and is lovely to use, but it is expensive hence the mix!

my bedding supplier recently got elite dream shavings instead of hunters. the flakes are bigger and i find they are less dusty

Ecobed. fantastic. can't break down to dust unlike most other bedding types, it took me years to work this out. the only dust in there will be bits of poo that you missed, or mud or hair from the horse, so it is possible to keep the bed immaculately dust-free. i tried wood pellets and hated the grittyness and dust, ditto woodshavings are definitely dustier.

The best bedding we've had was shredded cardboard - it was specially made for horse bedding and was amazing! Can't remember what brand it was but it was our favourite by far, was completely dust-free, ridiculously comfy and very absorbant. The only reason we stopped using it was because they put their prices up and we couldn't afford to continue using them (at the rate our horses get through bedding), but we never looked for alternative brands so they may not all be that pricey.

I use Shredding for Bedding. This is basically shredded bank note paper. It isn't like normal paper as being cotton based it doesn't go mushy when wet. Totally dust free and stays looking nice as very white.

It's reasonably cheap - I paid £6/ bale inc vat for last delivery of 90 bales. Got mine from Kieran Crumley (he's on FB)

My only minor gripe is that it sticks a bit when sweeping a wet yard.

I use bedmax and couldn't recommend them enough, least dusty bedding I've ever used :)

Totally agree with this... Bedmax all the way. I think good price to for the quality. My boy has an inhaler due to some breathing issues and this bedding hasnt affected him at all! :-)

Im going to get try ecobed. I dont know if they stock it around here though.

If you can afford a ton get it delivered straight from the manufacturers - it works out at about £6 a bag. It is fab stuff and I loved it - totally dust free, looks clean all the time and we second used the wet stuff to make a turn out area. The only reason I have moved onto wood pellets is cost - with 5 to bed down it became the economics of it, but given a choice I would use it all the time.

Another vote for bedmax but there rubbish if you have a very wet horse :)

Agree with this. Unfortunately my pony is very wet and a bale was only lasting me a couple of days so I swapped to Littlemax a few months ago. These are much more absorbant but I have noticed the last lot I had delivered are quite dusty and I do get fed up with the big lumps in them so I'm interested in replies to this.

Try shredded egg box, ive just switched to it and it soaks up loads more than the cardboard so works out cheaper. Plus it doesn't stick to the floor like the cardboard can. I get mine from walmsley premier bed in leeds.

Easibed is wood chips for horse bedding, very little dust, and gave a lovely supportive footing for a lame pony.Very easy to lift wet patches very absorbent and the best I have tried without making me sneeze.Great on rubber mats as it doesnt slide about .

i use all bed, if you havent heard of it just google it they have a website. its completely dust free, almost like wood chip, it gives a nice firm bed does not stick to rugs or poo and really easy to muck out

I breed chickens and their bedding must be completely dust free as I show them and they cant be dusty!

I like Aubiose and Bedmax but the best bedding by miles for being dust free is a brand of shavings called Plospan

I know its not necessarily the same thing as using it for a horse but it is wonderfully soft large and absorbant shavings and no sign of dust

I love Aubiose but have to say I cough like crazy when I've just put in a new bale and forking up the banks, but horse seems fine though :D I don't put him in til the dust has settled.

i find bedmax is awfull for dust! we cant use it for the racehorses as it is so dusty! The only really dust free stuff is paper/cardboard or easybed (never tried aubiose or pellets so cant comment) We are on Mendip shavings at the moment, WAY more in them per bag than anything else - seriously vacuum packed.
