Im looking for a Event/XC saddle which fits me, 6ft and long legs.

Does anyone know of any good makes which are reasonably priced?

Hate to say it as they aren't cheap, but Butets fit me like a glove (also 6ft & leggy), their most forward cut xc style model with the largest flap size in an 18" seat is perfect! I can manage in a different saddle (forward cut equipe) on my little mare, but really struggled to keep my position/ centre of balance in that saddle on big mare due to her big movement and powerful jump. Tried several saddles on big mare before giving in and parting with the pennies for a Butet as nothing else compared. I had to buy new to get the size I wanted but if you can wait they do come round 2nd hand on Sederholm's website. If they are pushing too much ££ then I'd try an equipe in the most forward cut flap they do and a larger seat size if the horse can carry it.

Hi, I am tall with a v long hip to knee measurement and have an ideal impala that takes up my leg really nicely. Lovely comfortable saddles that keep your leg nice and secure. I used mine for every day riding also. They arent cheap new but there are a few around second hand if you have a google!

I have a similar problem and now have an Exselle Integra monoflap jump which is great because the block is small and I don't feel restricted. It's similar to Ideal fit-wise. Hope that helps! Good luck :)

Are you looking for a true XC saddle (i.e. a jump saddle) or an event saddle which tend to be forward cut GPs? For the latter, some of the Ideals have quite good generous flaps. There is an Albion jump saddle (think it is called the Kontact) which was developed with William Fox-Pitt for his long legs.

Are you looking used? Any of the high end saddles will give you flap and block options.

Off the rack I like Exselle although do find them on the short side, flap wise. Otherwise, Butet and Passier (I like Stubbens too, but that will get you lynched around here) would be my go to but any of the flatter saddles with minimal blocks will be more likely to work for you. I am not an Albion fan but then other people are. (I know WFP rides in Albions but I would bet they aren't off the rack!)

Ideal impala pro - I'm 5ft 11" very long hip to knee and found this a great fit for me.

It's also reasonably priced as far as monoflap jump saddles go.

I'm also 6ft and can comfortably ride very short in a Butet XC (mine was old and 2nd hand and probably not as much money as you would think). I have a flat seat and no blocks at all. It's a pretty minimalist saddle and not for everyone but probably the best thing I have ever bought.

This sounds familiar :) !!

I'm quite surprised that people are saying the exselle integra as I had one and really struggled as they are not very forward cut at all so I had nowhere for my knee to go and my leg position was hugely compromised as a result with my lower leg always being inclined to swing back. I am very long hip to knee, but have short coupled horses, neither of whom will take a big saddle. I tried loads and ended up with an Equipe Expression Monoflap which has totally transformed my position! I love it, and even feel like I have room in front of my knee which is such a luxury having squeezed into my integra for so long!

And one of the best things about the expression is the price... Really really amazing value for money. It is a stunning quality saddle and I struggle to see how Butet/Devoucoux fetch over £1500 more!!

Let me know if you are interested in photos as I can post some when I'm on my PC :)

To be honest, I only took the word of the owner that it was an Exselle so I am willing to be corrected!

I'll add Equipe to my list as well, and the John Whittaker saddles, as good value for money, although not as generous in the flap as the high end saddles, in my experience. (That is often what you loose by going down a price point.)

Saddles are such a personal thing and I used to adored my Integra.... until I rode in an Equipe ;)

Here it is...

Im going to try and find this second hand! Thank you for showing me :-) I am finding it really hard to find the other makes for under £1000 on the interenet!

I feel your pain! I am 5ft8, and have a 34" inside leg.

Like I put above, I have a Barnsby Milton, and a Prestige Paris D - I also don't have a ridden pony over 14h!!! Certainly the Prestige comes in various flaps. Mine was second hand.

Callie is 14h :) This is a 17"
