Having been happily eventing in a monoflap event saddle we are now gutted to find our growing ISH (who now has wide ID shoulders) is now the wrong shape for a mono or close contact and needs a traditional style. Daughter only 5'4" and wants as forward cut as possible as horse 16.2hh with quite extravagent jump. What is best traditional saddle to suit higher withers with wider shoulders that has good knee and thigh blocks. Interested in ideal impala jump but none of the saddlers in our area have one to try..any other recommendations for saddles that would work for shorter rider with average leg length, must be under £1500. Thanks

Wow :) for your budget it would need to be second hand or you could possibly buy some parts new and some second hand once you know what you need

Look at Ideal their Impala pro is very popular with riders and they do at least a couple ie The new exceed or the impala 1450 that are very similar that are very similar but with traditional flaps both should come in below your budget! We have several impala pros and they are great saddles and easily fitted and altered

I was going to mention the Albion K2 as well, or maybe the Jeffries Hawk Event, that's a very nice saddle (I know as I have one !) and it was just under the £1500 mark.

I would recommend the Ideal Impala, I personally have the mono-flap version which I love, however I also regularly ride in the none mono-flap version.

Good value for money and very comfortable.

Thanks all, budget limited as have two horses due to one now unable to event but who still needs his saddle!!. Have seen a K2 which looked lovely but seems not very adjustable and as horses with ID blood can carry on growing we definately need something we can adjust. Happy to look at 2nd hand but saddlers have so few and cant risk buying on ebay incase doesnt fit. I will check out the suggestions, still prefer the option of an ideal as really like them so will check out the exceed and 1450.

I have a Fairfax jump on my ID x, I love the saddle and the design allows for his shoulders. Gullet can also be changed if/when needed.

Have checked out Fairfax today, really look good, cant decide between jump or the xc original which has cut back under panels to allow more shoulder room even though mono as looks like might do the job, both are adjustable. Not cheap but seem quality. Also the new K2 is adjustable now so thats also an option. Has anyone got the xc original on a horse with wider shoulders if so do you find its cut back enough to free up shoulders? Had to accept more budget needed so other suggestions up to £2k welcome.

i event in an albion k2 and its the comfiest saddle ever, but changing it as i find its the wrong shape for me now i've gone up a level jumping. I find the big kneeblocks don't let me raise my stirrups enough, and the back catches me on bigger drops, so have been advised to change. every trainiers i've had has mentioned how they find that they make people swing their legs back compared to other saddles. i'l be heartbroken to change it though, its so comfy!

The saddler today mentioned the K2 is high at back and may cause problems at the bigger heights, i did wonder if air jacket could catch so interssting to hear what you say. Thanks
