I am looking to buy a sheet that will suit for

- Schooling at home in the rain (waterproof)
- Schooling at home in the cold (warm)
- Warming up for competition (easy to get on and off)
- Hacking in cold or rain (needs to be secure)

Am I asking too much?! I was looking at the Amigo or Premier Equine competition sheets but any other recommendations will be taken!

I have a mark Todd one, fleece inside and waterproof outside. Mine doesn't sweat. If not raining I have a mark Todd fleece one x

Waterproof is a waste of time ,they just sweat under it. Buy a good woolen newmarket sheet

Totally agree with Mike :D My NM quarter sheet has been going strong for 30 years. I prefer quarter sheets to the wrap around jobbies you get.

I have ridden through the worst a Welsh winter can through at us, never, EVER has the rain got through to the horse, you simply can't beat wool, you pay for it but it lasts for years.

Same, they are on sale on hope valley as well.

My mare cannot get wet/cold over her back end and it's been a godsend. She doesn't sweat excessively under it and is in hard work.

Thanks for the recommendation. How is the sizing in the Mark Todd? My horse is a 6'6" in a rug and I know the rule of thumb is take 2' off for an exercise sheet but the size guide says 4'6" for a cob?

The Newmarket ones look fab and I'm tempted by them! May splash out when it gets colder and sell this one :)

Oh just looked up the Mark Todd one and it goes under the saddle :( ideally looking for something that's easy to take on and off for competitions

If it's like the mark todd I have (the fluorescent one which I use for hacking), it goes under the saddle flap and then comes out the front and velcros over the withers. Easy to take on and off. I had a large for a 16.2 who takes a 6'6" in rugs and was just about OK but I think they come up smallish. I also have a Rambo wool one which as said does keep the horse dry but takes a while to dry itself but i use that for schooling.

ETA if you look at this picture and zoom in to the back of the saddle you can see that it doesn't lie flat as it sits around the saddle not under it

My mark Todd goes round the saddle not under.
Mines 6'6 normally and I have a 4'6 that I would say is snug so would go 4'9 even 5'

I have the horseware newmarket one same as this http://www.hopevalleysaddlery.co.uk/1924/Rambo-Newmarket-Competition-Fleece-Exercise-Sheet-(AGAC6N)

Even if its wet horse stays dry and it dries reasonably quickly, can be shoved in the washing machine too, also good for comp esp if you are hanging around as you can wrap it over your legs and its easy to get off under the saddle flaps. I also have a quarter sheet that is waterproof and cotton lined (off ebay), also good for warmer wet days as it only does their bum and is not so hot, would also love a thermatex 1/4 sheet one day!

Can anyone tell me what the sizing is like on the Mark Todd exercise sheets? My horse wears a 6'6" in rugs (big bottom!) so would a 5ft be too big?
