My boy is a 15.1 cob 4 year old in medium work I'm looking into putting him on a balancer to help his overall health he isn't under weight just lacking topline and condition which will come with work as he is just being brought back after being turned away he is currently fed Dengie hifi molasses free pony nuts and speedibeet this is what I've been feeding over the winter as he wasn't getting any work now I'm looking to find him the right balancer and chop for what he needs for his work load and general health what are your opinions on balancers off to the feed store tomorrow what would u suggest? I've been looking at blue chip never used it before
Thanks shelley

Blue chip is very expensive, topspec is better but I feed equimins advance complete which comes in powder or pellets and is much much higher spec in most things but has no iron which suits my grazing and is also linseed based so all of it is worth feeding. I don't like feeding fillers ESP at some of the cost of these balancers.

I also like the Top Spec balancer, the lite one should be good for a cob, im on the comprehensive and my boy looks fab :)

I feed both of mine Spillers lite balancer... I have done tonnes of research on all the balancers (I have a spreadhseet!) and in my opinion it was the best for good doers in terms of ingredient and value for money. I also feed it alongside HiFi molassess free

Take it slow, he is only 4 yrs old!
Basic chop and spillers lite balancer or topspec lite balancer are very good with correct amounts of everything vits/mins they need.... plus salt and micronised linseed ( for skin/coat and hooves plus helps with weight gain without being ridiculously fattening)

But what are you balancing it to? The majority of UK pasture is high in iron, but most balancers include iron. Selenium is usuually lacking but this needs to be corrrectly.balanced to bit e.

I would have a forage and hay/haylage analysis.done before.just feeding a 'balancer'

UK pasture varies from field to field, county to county, depends whether it has been fertilised or not, if its moorish or lush grass.. If you read the blog, the lady is feeding chop too.

I use spillers balancer-however had my forage analysed otherwise you don't know what you are balancing! I also feed spillers fibre and cubes alongside-spillers have been really good with their advice and mine are looking great on it :)

Having used many, different balancers on several horses over many years I am now a convert to Pure Feed balancer. Mine are all saner on it as I have found some of the others can hype them up.
