As in title, interested in recommendations for a feed to mix supplements into. Ponies are both native and prone to being overweight so ideally looking for something suitable for laminitics. Also something that won’t cause excitability. Would have gone for a light chaff but most seem to have alfalfa which apparently can send them off their rocker. Thanks.

I just use hi-fi molasses free. I’ve never had a problem with alfalfa

Honeychop do chaffs that are free from alfalfa and molasses. I would feed that if I had any problems with Hifi.

Speedibeet is good, Fast Fibre also swells up to big sizes with very little calories :)

If you're after a chaff - have you tried Honeychop Oat Straw - it's literally just oat straw with a bit of mint flavouring I believe (been a while since I fed it!), so that could be a good option too x

I think it’s the topspec topchop zero that has mint in it. The honeychop is pure oat chaff.

I would say whatever they will eat horrible vitamins in. Proper minerals taste horrible - if you have a greedy pony and a handful of oat straw is enough, great.

Mine cob x native is very fussy and so I have to resort to a handful (literally) of molasses filled cheap pony mix. When he goes off that I use grass nuts - soaked. I wouldn't feed 1/3 of a scoop of it - but one handful to get the minerals in is lesser of two evils.

As long as it's a small amount it won't be too many calories.

Every horse is different so something that works for one might not for the next, it's a bit of trail and error. See if you can borrow a handful or two from others on your yard to save having to buy 12 kgs of something to discover they won't eat it.

I always use bran you can then put something nice it grated apple and carrots work well or a little molasses and water something like that .I always add a few oats as well . Chopped up meadow sweet works great at this time of year.
Half a round feed scope damp but not to wet ( or you lose the supplement in the water )usually does the trick .

I use Fast Fibre, it’s low calorie and the mash consistency seems to hide supplements better. If they’re fussy I chuck a handful of Baileys Fibre Nuggets in with it, never had one turn their nose up at them!
