Hi horsey experts that live in my phone…
I’ve bought the thin line muzzle and I have been using it with the hy fieldsafe headcollar (the one that has no metal). All was fine until my pony and his friend have conspired against me which has resulted in ponies friend removing the muzzle for him. So I’m looking at getting a different headcollar are the thin line ones worth the money?
Open to recommendations 😊

My friends horse has the thinline one and it does just look better. It never comes off.
I just use a cheapo normal head collar on mine as pony is too small and can remove anything that’s got a breakaway point.

Although this thread just made me look and there is a smaller than pony size so I’m now tempted.
The breakaway is a leather strap over the head so not flimsy Velcro which is what mine just removes within seconds.

Just horse riders has them at a pretty good price.

So it isnt breakaway unless they physically snap the (fairly thick) leather head piece. It is break away in the sense leather is more breakable than nylon?

I just use one I got off ebay , it has the velcro tab where the throat clip would do up.
It's called Sheldon fieldsafe head collar

BTW, I cut the hole bigger for mine , it's probably around 4 cm now. He seems to have no problem eating through it , so much so that now I wonder if it's actually reducing his consumption or not!
Any thoughts?

I have also made the hole bigger. From the way he was speed eating last night when he’d managed to get it off I’m guessing it does still make a difference 🤣

I don’t think this will work for me as his friend has figured out how to undo the Velcro fastening x

Yes I was browsing them on there. Think I’m going to just pay out that bit more so his friend can’t undo it x

Wiggy broke his leather headcollar last week getting it stuck on a stable door when he was tied up outside it. The ease with which it broke made me think it would be fine to turn him out in it!

I use the Roma ones, I think they're less than a fiver from sports direct. Decent quality for the price and come with a replacement tab should you need it.

I am going to get one! Friends just seems to fit and sit so much nicer than mine and my current head collar is slightly too big so isn’t great and needs replacing.
Thanks for this thread! Made me look and see they do make smaller than pony!

I use the thinline one and it fits well. The leather is quite thin and would be easy to snap (as per another poster, I was shocked at how easy both my Shetland and my big horse found it to snap their nice full leather headcollars!)

I love westernway ones, they are light weight but strong, and safe and reasonable price, best one I have found.
4 velcro break points, you can have one colour or mix, and sure she will do bespoke ones https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?i..._trksid=p2047675.m3561.l2562&_ssn=sandra560_0

Even if it reduces how much grass he gets per mouthful by just 1g, if you consider how quickly and many mouthfuls of grass they grab, then it soon adds up.
You could also look at it in time reduction, if it takes them a couple seconds more per mouthful to line it up and grab it through the muzzle, that adds up to reduced time actually eating :)

I have used a leather head collar which worked fine but the nose tended to drop so sat a bit lower than i would have liked so when she broke the muzzle ( i think her neighbour had a helping hand) i replaced it with a Equilibrium field safe one. Works fine, noseband doesnt drop but its not at adjustable as i would like, it fits but i found she managed to wiggle out of it rolling. Now i've got it on the right clips its fine but i'm not sure if i will stick with it or just get a thinline one and be done with it.

I have a shires headcollar with a breakaway attachment on the headpiece. The noseband fit isn't brilliant but it works for now.
