Best fly mask for comfort and staying on?

I've got the rambo fly mask. There's a nose net as well but I take that off as it gets wet snotty etc then attracts files. I like this one as it has a band in it that means it's kept away from their eyes. If you Google it you'll see what I mean. He looks like beekeeper in it though but I wouldn't go with any other now. Its stayed on and not rubbed and this is its second summer.

I like the Equilibrium ones. They fit well and seem to last a long time - I have a three year old one still going strong, and it washes up well but still holds its shape. You also get a choice of ears/no ears, and nose/no nose. (I use the no ears/no nose one).

I really like the shires masks! they are quite thing material and stretchy ish (like a swimming costume) around the jaw and comes with a detachable net bit for their noses too!

Having tired several including the Equilibrium the only one he keeps on his the KM Elite space mask. He also looks like a bee keeper 😊

cashel crusader, best ones IMO the only ones i would buy.

these look very similar to the Premier Equine ones - great design, nice stiff mesh that stands away from their eyelashes but soft binding round edges so as not to rub sensitive little ears :) (on sale at the moment too - under a tenner :))

My Appy needs eye protection and for his pink nose too and has the KM ELite space mask. Comfy padded velcro straps and stays on well. For a horse who is a bit fussy with his ears and head my chap is not in the slightest bit bothered getting it on or wearing it.

I really recommend it :)

He does look like he is ready for battle or something in it and is fondly called space pony now :)

Here is a couple pics so you can see what is like

The PE one has more eye clearance. I have a Cashel Crusader with a nose, for the cob, PE for one of the old boys who is very fussy about his head (no nose and definitely no ear covers!) and an Equilibrium (no nose no ears) for the other old boy.

PE has good eye clearance, but isn't such a snug fit under the jaw. Hasn't rubbed, come off or let anything in.

Cashel is ok, the mesh does move about a bit, which leaves holes but is easy enough to fix. Hasn't come completely off (double velcro), but I have had a bemused cob, wandering about with his mask on sideways! Hasn't let anything in.

Equilibrium is the closest fit, as it's stretchy; gives a reasonable amount of eye room and is adjustable across the poll. Hasn't come off, no rubs - even though horse is very thin skinned and the velcro behind his ears isn't the softest. It also hasn't let anything in.

So for me (out of the ones I have tried) it would be - Equilibrium unless the horse was very sensitive about having stuff near the eyes, then PE and maybe the Cashel. It was bought to keep a very pink nose from getting crispy and the nose net part is quite deep. Not as deep as the Roma mask I used to have, which was excellent for snozz shading and adjustable but not so great at staying put.

This - Thanks! I couldn't remember the name of them!!

They do different horse fits also (not just one size fits all) which is perfect.

I admit I originally balked at paying £25 for fly mask, but they last years, wash and fit v well.

Gallop, Roma and Shires are the ones I use. The Gallop ones seem to be either too small for a relatively fine 13.3 NF pony, (and too big for a 12.2 Welsh) and the cob sizes are far too big for my Mother's and Father two Andalusian mares (16.1hh and 15.3hh) so not that impressed with their fly masks. The Roma pony size fits the 13.3 NF perfectly though, and rarely falls off, so would recommend them. Shires are also pretty secure and durable, not once in the two years that I've used it has it fallen off one of our ponies, a small Welsh Cob.

I suppose that it very much depends on the fit that will determine whether or not it falls off.

I've got a Roma Lycra one which goes over the head and doesn't have any straps. My horse used to always get his mask off so I haven't bothered with one for a few years but the flies have been particularly bad this year so I decided to try again. He has had it about a month now and has only got it off about twice and at only £9.99 it won't break your bank either!
