Need to buy my horse a new fly mask. I am going to hickstead next week so I'll have tonnes of choice and I'm not too worried about cost as it's going to be worn everyday all summer. So question is which is the best?

She currently has a mark todd one in full size but although big enough in the ears and a little too big in the length it doesn't give her eyes much clearance, got the cob size first and that was totally hopeless in this make. She's a 14.2 welsh D.

Thanks

Personally I love the Cashal masks go to the Equine America stand at Hickstead, they do all sizes with or without ears and/or nose covers. Friends use them on their Welsh Ds and I have always used them on my Arab and they wash up well too, think they cost about £21.50 at least they did last Hickstead meeting.

I've seen the Cashel ones and they look really lovely quality- I have some of the Premier Equine Fly Masks and I've been really surprised at how well it's lasted and washed up- my horse has never lost it in the field either.

I also have 2 of the Farnam fly masks as well which I really like and they last for years and years, and also fit well.

I previously had a Cashel one in the Arab size. It was huge, didnt stay on and wasnt as padded as the Equilibrium. Most people on my yard use the Cashel one though with no problems.

I have the premier equine one - its cheap at around 15quid.
The gauze bit is big - so not too scary
the eye protection is stiff - so doesnt poke my girl in the eye - nice and roomy inside.
It doesn't have ear flaps - so can accomodate Donkey ears or tiny ears.
And there is a small slit to allow the forelock through for better fit.
oh and its got soft soft soft edges!

Couldnt reccomend it more!

Our Weatherbeeta rug came with a Roma matching mask but feel while it does the job it isnt as easy to see through as the other one we have and when rains sticks to skin

We prefer the matching Rambo flybuster one as it sits off skin and eyes more as stiffer material and dries faster or the Weatherbeeta white one with fleece trim and large velcro fastening that is easy to see through, sits off face and eyes and dries out fast. All have ears and velcro fastening.

i have a roma one too its rubbish the midges get in through the ears shires are good nie n soft but my pony likes to itch his head and hasripped through it and im now thinking about gong for a cashel or a premier equine as i have heard such good reviews about them both

i have equilibrium with ears and find it very good, fits well, gives the eyes plenty of clearance and stops midges in ears. had the one without ears first and use that as a spare. fits same as the one with ears. very happy with both. had a mark todd with ears and found the elastic too tight round the nose, only seems suitable for a horse with very narrow nose(maybe tb): mine is a 15,2 warmblood cross, so not huge....D:D
