Best fly rug for wide horse + horse flies!

I recently moved to a new yard and my horse has a lovely field with some large trees in to shelter under. However with these trees has come an absolute influx of horse flies. The other horses don’t seem as plagued as what he does (dark bay).

I tried my two existing fly rugs on in his size and neither fit (shoulders too tight or one wouldn’t go round his abdomen!). I went and bought one in a size up and it just about fits but will rub if I don’t find an alternative.

What would you recommend for a fat (been off with an injury) draft type? And which rugs are best to avoid horse flies? I found the Vamoose rugs on sale but are they decent and wide enough?

TIA

The Horseware Vamooses I have don't remotely fit anything on the chunkier end even of Sports Horses, it's the tightness over the shoulders in them, even a size up. The rugs that fit them in my experience have been Shires, though I have only had the half and half fly rug/rain sheet top panel ones from them, not full fly rugs. The other brand that has worked for my chunkier builds is Premier Equine, though I don't know if they would be quite right for a draft type with a few extra pounds. I hope you get there with the right solution as the horse flies are vile!

Big Horse Shop. They do a zebra one too. ?

Though I do need to go down a size, for example mine is a 6'9 in weather better but in the big horse shop ones he is a 6'6

Big Horse Shop and Ruggles both have offers on fly rugs at the moment.

I can’t find the offers on fly rugs for the Big horse shop?

Thanks everyone, hoping the BHS zebra rug will fit him. Going to order in his normal size.

Depends on how much of a tank - Amigo Xl fits my part bred, but not the Ardennes. Ruggles come up tighter in fly rug range than they do their normal range which is annoying. Shires don't do up around the neck,

I've been super impressed with the fly rug I bought last year from Animac. Its made of a cotton canvas type material and so far is still immaculate despite being worn 24/7 through the summer mo this both last year and this year. They do one for a heavier horse. They don't have belly straps, which seems totally odd at first, but my mares stays in place despite her rolling and cavorting around the field, and there isn't the risk of her ripping it by getting a leg through the belly strap which is how her old one met its demise.
