I hate summer :( Horrid blurry flies!
Friend's mare is suffering horribly and is constantly swishing her tail/shaking her face. She was actually quite glad to come in today from the field!!
Owner currently uses DEET which works to an extent but it's just getting unbearable. The mare is in a fly sheet which covers most of her body and a fly mask is on the cards I think.

I recommended Coopers, but realised that has citronella in, which the horse is allergic to and obviously we need to minimise skin irritation!!

Any ideas?? x

I am having HUGE problems with fly bites this year, my sensitive TB has just had a week off work due to massive lumps on his saddle area from horse flies :(:( I have resorted to TWO fly rugs and NAF Pink spray - sorry, I dont know if it has citronella, it was recommended by 2 friends as being the best and more effective than NAF Black (Veet) against the horse flies?

I hate them, horrible things :mad::mad:

Oh tell me about it! I'm covered in bites after last night, there was just no air so they were rife :(
It's horrible, she's just such a lovely horse and nothing bothers her, but to see her so distressed by the flies.....
Will look into the Pink spray, thankyou :)

I've had a sucess with the fly away products, particulary their shine stuff to detangle tails, but have their normal fly spray, they do a citronella free one which i havent tried yet,

Might be worth a try? Otherwise we use detol diluted in a spray bottle, you do end up smelling like a hospital, but it does keep the flies away for at least a bit.

Fly Away has been brilliant for me, as has Deosect.
Very few Flysprays are allowed to contain Citronella now, so finding one without should be a doddle.:D

it contains citronellol

which is derived from citronella, thus avoiding the ban and is different to pure citronella as it doesnt have the more questionable e.m. in it i do believe. (cant rememebr the e.m. full name or spelling, sorry)
