Best girth for horse with forward girth groove?

Hiya, sorry not sure if this has been posted beforem but due to my horses 'festively plump' belly the saddle is slipping forward atm (have contacted saddler) so I am going to try a different girthing arrangement. Also, he has a girth groove in his armpits which is also pulling the saddle forward. Are there any girths that help to prevent this?

oh god dont start me on this! I have spent a fortune on girths to try and fit my new neddie who has a rather big tum and forward girth groove. Everything was rubbing. I eventually resorted to a plain old cottage craft girth because it was narrow and whacked a good quality sheepskin around it.
 
Lol -his isn't actually rubbing but I'm pretty certain its pulling the saddle forward (aided by the tummy of course

I had the same problem with little pony, big barrell, forward girth groove and found that the most comfortable option is Stubben string girths, but they do need to be kept very clean...
 
NOTHING works. I bought a really expensive curved girth that was supposed to eliminate this and guess what? It doesn't!! I've tried every non slip pad and just bought a Limpet and will see on Wednesday if that stop my saddles slipping forward. My saddles (both side and astride) both go forwards, both of which, have been professionally fitted (my side saddle has had custom made panels by a master side saddler and my astride saddle has been fitted and flocked by a Saddle Company fitter).

If the Limpet doesn't work, then I give up!
 
A Stubben string girth combined with a Limpet saddle pad worked for me when I needed it for a while due to a similar festively plump belly (love that expression!). Saddle would shoot forward when I jumped and saddler recommended the above and it worked for us.
 
gah - was hoping that a new girth would solve all our problems! *jumps up in down in a huff*. Will look up stubben string girths - I've not long sold my limpet pad either! Bought it for my last horse, didn't need it with this one so sold it, THEN he decides to morph into a hippo. I give up

The Pro choice are "Grippy" so shouldnt need overtightening, and the grip pads do what they say

Any girth will naturally work its way into a forward girth groove - doesn't matter what type of girth it is. The bad news is that the best solution is to have your saddle altered/find a new saddle with the girth tabs set further forward - so that when the girth is done up and in place it hangs vertically downwards from the tabs (I guess that your current girth is hanging diagonally forward from the tabs to the girth groove).

To complicate metters further - with the girth tabs set further forward there is then the need to rebalance the saddle so that the back doesn't lift up - sometimes a simple point strap can be the answer here.

I have the same problem, and I found that having a 'point' girth strap - which gives me 4 girth straps in all, more or less stops the forward slip. I girth up on straps 1 and 4, with a plain cottage craft, plus sleeve. I found that any girth with elastic in makes the problem worse (and I've now got a trunk full!)

I did consider a limpet, and it's interesting to see your comments. Might invest in one now.
 
Thanks guys, the saddle is a thorowgood T6 so already has 4 girth points, I am currently girthing on 1 and 4 - think i'll try 1 and 3. Interesting re elastic girths - i've started using one since he became so 'round' so perhaps that is also a contributing factor!
I will look to invest in a new saddle (

) in a couple of months once his weight is more acceptable as I didn't see the point of getting one that fits a hippo when I don't intend to let him get this fat again......

feels a bit smug that although frank has v forwards girth groove which gives us rubbing problems his massive shoulders mean saddle doesn't move.

I use an aerborn atherstone waffle with elastic both ends= no rubs! any un shaped girths rub his elbows and bad experience with a curved one.
 
it was a wavy one rather than the half crescent ones it = bleeding hole in pony second time used worse rub he has ever had, I sent it back with pics having bought it to try and avoid his elbows but with the atherstones he occasionally gets small pressure lumps!
