I prefer the shires grazing muzzle, it is soft and padded with plenty of room, I have not found it to rub on any of the horses and ponies I have used it on. I can't stand the greenguard, no matter how I fit it or how little I left it on it rubbed my mare, Shires are cheap, durable, comfy and stay put.

I second the shires, although i found they came up small so my 12hh pony has a cob sized one to prevent rubbing on her chin, never had a problem with these and they stay put...

I've tried loads over the years (I have perlino with a very sensitive muzzle) , Greenguard, Shires the lot, all have rubbed him.

The only one that hasn't is the 'Dinky' Muzzle (it comes in extra large), it's made from webbing so no hard plastic or sweat inducing rubber. :D

Shires - with a bit of vet wrap to the rear of the muzzle to prevent rubbing. (only a small spot - nothing major).

Cheap, good fit (even if it did rub before vet wrapping!) and machine washable - happy days. Not that Fat Lad would agree with any of this! :D

I would second the dinky muzzle!
I have used the shires one & it rubbed my mare raw despite adding extra padding. She loves to keep her muzzle wet by dunking it in the water trough, & the shires one couldnt cope with this. I have found that the dinky one is soft from the word go & doesnt rub despite being wet all the time!

I have used the shires one to great effect, until pony decided to break it the other night... I will therefore be spending my Saturday night with needle and thread fixing it (he's just ripped the stitching) whilst watching Casualty. What it is to be young and have an exciting social life ;)

Someone on here was saying their cob could eat out of the nostril holes of dinky muzzles, so it wasn't very effective, on here the other day. But that's probably quite a rare skill

I have the greenguard, looks like a shopping basket. But both my horses have been OK in them. I do put a bit of padding on the sides as some horses were being rubbed by them but I`ve had no problems with the padding. And they get the weight off.

Dinky rugs all the way!! Very well padded, very comfortable, and my mischevious boy loves it doesnt bother him in the slightest, also has never rubbed him or anything would deffinatly reccomend!!
