I need to buy heavy duty clippers, to clip anything from TB to VERY hairy cobs! and they will be used all year round as I compete, and have numerous horses so will be at least into double figures across winter.

Just wondering what clippers you would recommend? They need to be very reliable and hard wearing!

Oh and mains is not a problem so can be either battery/mains powered.

All opinions welcome! (and especially any clippers to avoid!)

My favourites are my Wolseley Harriers which I've had for about 15 years and I clip loads and loads. However, they conked out mid season a couple of years ago and I bought another set while they were being repaired, and they aren't a patch on the old ones. So the new ones are now my backup clippers and the old faithfuls are the ones I use all the time.

I've got a set of Listers too but I don't particularly like those.

lister showman every time, ive got 2 pairs now, both well in to their teens lol and still going strong, they clip the uber hairy, the greasy, the muddy, fine coated sleek, and never a moan or nicked horse.

Wolseley have been around for years, they are a tried & proven brand. I've had my Wolseley Swifts for 12 years & have had no problems with them whatsoever. I would recommend them to anyone however you need to decide on how many horses you are going to clip at any one time as that will depend on the model you get. The Swift is ideal for me as I have a couple of horses & they cope well with that.

I think you get what you pay for. There have been some new clippers names around over the last few years & these clippers are around £120-£150 & come with a couple of sets of blades? They then start appearing on ebay, going for peanuts second hand. Don't skimp on clippers, if you buy a good branded name they will last you for years. Parts & servicing is also easy to arrange on named brands, sometimes on the lesser brands this can be a problem & the item almost becomes disposable.

Wolseley are straight forward workman like reliable clippers. They come in any colour you want as long as it's black ;) They were designed many years ago, the design is good, it works & they have seen no reason to change it. I like them & will be using them this afternoon on a 16h2" jumper. :)
