So for some reason this year, out of all the years I have had her she has decided to become a tasty treat to flies, mozzies and everything else!

It isn't the height of summer and fly season yet, my poor girl is abolutely covered in massive swollen lumps, all under her belly and on the top of her legs :(

I have tried the usual bought ones with deet, citronella etc, but this year it isn't even phasing the little winged *******.

Any good home made fly spray recipes?! Preferably ones I can make is big stock so that they last a while? I have heard that garlic, vinegar and tea tree oil is a good combo, but don't know if anyone has a tried and tested method! I want to get boiling up some concoction for her asap!

Thanks :D

Just a thought if your horse isnt normally bothered by flies it might be erticaria (I think that how you spell it!) also called nettle rash. My smallest pony gets it occasionally and it looks horrendus with large plaques under the skin but doesnt bother him at all and is caused by eating something probably a weed or similar from the field, our vet told us to treat it with 4x the human dose of anti histamine (he is 13 hands) so that may be worth a go as antihistamine wont do him any harm. If is it definitely flies I find a good fly rug, kill itch on mane and tail, powerphaser fly spray and auroplack insecticidal ear tags for cattle plaited in to the tail the best deterant and believe me we have tried everything!

If you do a search there is a big long thread with loads of recipes. I like to use neem oil in but the smell is a bit off-putting. A cross between garlic and peanut, in our house we call it pony satay.
