What’s your favourite hoof products for coping with the dry ground?
My youngest horses feet are looking very dry and are starting to chip, but we’re not technically due for a trim for a few more weeks (have contacted my farrier to try and get an earlier slot) so I’m assuming it’s just because of how hard the ground is at the moment! He’s out 24/7, and only in very very light work at present.
So hit me with your favourite products/routines for keeping their feet nice and healthy looking!

Water as they would in the natural state. They really don,t need all these products. Waste of money when all that is needed is a hose or to stand in a stream.

I thought the constant switching between very dry and wet was what made feet expand and contract and crack?

Hoof Moisturizer from Day Carr & Martin. Happy with Kevin Bacon products too, especially in case of thrush. No grease on dry hooves if not watered first...

not that I have found in any way. My feet are y as hard and strong in winter (out in the day and in at night) as in summer.
Standing them in a stream or indeed a hosepipe is not switching between wet and dry it is merely providing them with moisture for a few minutes. Horses feet are designed to cope with the elements probably far more than they are designed to cope with Kevin Bacon, Red Horse or Carr Day and Martin products.

Looking at the ferals who live in a very dry climate when then stand in the river to drink or roll. Do their feet crack and become damaged with that small amount of moisture? I hardly think so.

I have always (for well over 30 years) hosed or stood in a river daily with barefoots in the dry summers. No cracks or damage to the feet. (Sadly hasn't made them any less hard to trim.)

Oops, sorry for gory photo opening straight away!

This is interesting
I'd be avoiding most topical hoof products personally unless they're VERY barefoot friendly, Red Horse would fall into that category.

ie wet the feet with water be it a soaking boot, river, hosepipe or any other method.

Below is taken from the Rockfoot FB page, an entry in 2021.

1976, hottest summer I ever knew, I was advising all my clients to soak their horses's feet in water or stand in mud for 20 minutes a day. NO OILS OR CREAMS, just water and a wire brush.
If you clog up the periople the foot thinks it's wet and you will possibly get cracked feet!

this makes me feel ever so, ever so old because it was where (in 1976) I learnt to stand feet in water in hot summers. :p I didn't realise it was so long ago.
