So it is apparent that pony doesnt do well after loosing a shoe! his foot is cracking and breaking off and am just looking for peoples experiences of what they think the best hoof supplements/feeds are to help the foot re grow and be strong etc? As I dont want to spend £30 on something that doesnt actually do anything.
thanks in advance (also posted in New Lounge)

Farriers formula by life data is used by professional yards and worth the money- feet look better after one bag.
Have him shod more regularly
Be suspicious of nailing on craftsmanship

I used Farriers Formula for over a year and could hardly tell any difference as her hooves were still chipping, cracking and had chuncks missing so after taking advice from many Barefoot people on here I swapped to Pro Hoof and changed her feed to Fast Fibre. After being on it for only 6 weeks my farrier noticed a difference and commented on how much better they were and a further 6 weeks on from that she hasnt had any chips, cracks or chuncks missing at all.

I would definatly recomend Pro Hoof- its amazing stuff!

Best supplement? Correct blood supply.

Make sure that your pony's feet are properly balanced, the toes are not long and the frog has good contact with the ground. If the blood supply to the circumflex artery which runs around and under the pedal bone is compromised by leverage from a long toe / foot imbalance then the structures of your pony's feet will be unable to absorb what nutrients they need for healthy growth and horn formation. Not saying that is the case with your ned but I see so many owners shovelling expensive pots of this, that and the other into their animals when they would do better to pay out a little more for correct trimming and / or shoeing and the horse will then be able to utilise the nuturients from it's diet without the need for expensive supplements! Sorry, rant over ;)
