Best horse box insurance ??????

Well, as much as I hate to say it (them being our competitors and all) I think NFU are about the best you can get for horsebox insurance and breakdown cover. They have been doing it for years so know what they're doing and are very slick at sorting out problems should you break down.

REALLY:eek: They quoted me over £600 I dont pay half that to drive my sports car!! Bit more than a jump from £170 well £220 with any driver over 30 I guess

I insured with Shearwater when I had my 5.5 tonne they were really competitive and I did my recovery of horses/lorry cover via them and that company were excellent.

Got mine from Anthony Evans, cheapest by far when I was shopping around! Insurance and breakdown for any driver for 3.5t lorry was under £280 a year.

I think Anthony Evans is pretty well known. I would just watch if you are getting breakdown. Remember you do get what you pay for and some of these breakdown people that some insurers use do not actually practice in a safe or even legal way when it comes to horsebox recovery!

Oh and was the NFU quote based on an any driver over 25 basis? That is often the norm for horsebox insurance

Ok will do Thanks again folks

I was insured with Anthony Evans but shopped around and SEIB were actually cheaper than A.E. so went with them but A.E breakdown.

I've been reading up on the internet, as I am looking in to horsebox insurance and breakdown cover - and read some rather worrying reports of horseboxes being winched on to trailers with the horses on board?? And also one where a horsebox (not with horses on board) wasn't secured properly on the trailer and the owners watched it swaying about during the journey - and even worse the breakdown guy had insisted that their dog travel in the lorry as he refused to take it in the breakdown truck cab. The company in question have been recommended above!

This has worried the life out of me now. No sane person would winch a lorry on to a trailer surely with horses on board? Is it because they use local people to do the recovery? I am now looking for breakdown cover where they guarantee alternative onward transport for the horses and although it's not particularly cheap I think I am going with Equine Rescue Services for peace of mind.

I've insured with Anthony Evans. Its a bit cheaper when you do it online. I asked them on the phone about the break down and they said they they do tow your lorry to the destination of your choice and not arrange alternative transport.
Since I'm travelling local this would be ok for me but if I was travelling further afield I'd not have picked it.

I just couldn't have peace of mind knowing that my horses were being towed on a vehicle rather than transported in alternative transport. Is that even legal?
