I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the regional boards section.

I am looking to move from Herts to Bristol at the beginning of next year with my partner. I have two horses and I am more worried about finding a good livery yard than I am about a house and job at the moment.
I need a yard with all year turnout, a good school and off-road hacking for a 14hh semi retired mare and a 15.1hh gelding. Assisted DIY
I have been googleing and looking back through posts on here and I think its either going to be the Failand area or Westerleigh, are they the best horsey areas for yards etc?.
Can anyone suggest any nice yards or those to avoid in those areas please?
I'm spoilt at the moment as I share a yard with a friend so its a bit scary going back to livery.

We will be renting a house for the time being and my job is quite flexible, hence the worry over the horses before anything else!

I'm not from Bristol but I do know several people who live there and have driven through it at rush hour so I know the traffic there is notoriously bad - worse than other cities of a similar size. You need to make sure your (or your partner's) commute is as short as possible and avoid going through the centre if you can.

The only place I'm familiar with as I've competed there and held an event there is Leyland Court. The facilities are fab and while I've no experience of it as a livery yard, I've found the (newish)owners were very helpful and friendly.

Hi, I'm from Bristol!! I have my horses on my own yard in westerleigh, westerleigh livery yard is quite nice and there are other yards in the area. Send me a message and I'll tell you about the ones to avoid! ;)

Oh and if you ever need/want a hacking buddy and you move to westerleigh let me know :)

Hi! I'm in Bristol.

I think it's either North or South of the city really - either Westerleigh/Yate or areas like Dundry, Nailsea/Failand/Clevedon etc. There's quite a lot of horsey stuff down in Weston too I hear. The ponies I share have just moved to a lovely yard in Clevedon, which is just down from Failand. I think there are quite a few good choices in this area but it can be tricky finding one with 2 spaces open at the same time.

Warren sport horses are quite close, not sure if they offer livery though. Its about 30 min from the centre of bristol

They offer livery, but from memory it's only full. Turnout isn't all year round and the hacking is mostly narrow lanes (quite busy).

OP - try a call to Puddys Saddlery asking what's on their board or if they can recommend anywhere. Good luck, searching for a new yard is very low down on my list of Things I Like to Do :).

I used to live in Bristol (and potentially considering a move back). Ditto the other posters talking about traffic - avoid trying to get into/out of the city at all costs! I used to drive 5 miles to work up the M32 (leaving Bristol centre and working slightly outside), and on a good day it would be about 45 minutes/an hour.

South and north are probably best - Failand, Clevedon, Weston, and all round there is lovely. Also north, like Yate, Iron Acton, Wickwar, Chipping Sodbury. If we move back, we'll probably go for north Bristol/south Glos. When I was looking for a new yard, Leyland Court and Castle Farm were top of my lists. Good luck! Bristol is my favourite city ever, I miss it there a lot!

PS - If you do opt to live in the city centre, areas like Clifton, Redland, Cotham will get you south and into Failand in 20/30 minutes, but you'll have to pay to go over the bridge (though this is an AWESOME thing in the summer, when the sun's setting and all the hot air balloons are out).
