I’m thinking of getting a hot horse shower as my boy needs clipping throughout the year and especially this time of year I can’t bring myself to be in and out of the tack room with a kettle!
I’ve looked at the Hippo gas showers which look great. I’ve also seen similar elsewhere (eBay, B&Q etc) but I imagine it’s probably a case of you get what you pay for. Also seen some horror stories of the gas showers catching fire which I’d hope with proper care and covering when not in use would be prevented 🤞🏻
Any real-life reviews would be great please.

I had an expensive proper horse branded one, it was really temperamental and lasted a year before it died completely. I bought a cheap one from eBay about three years ago and it’s fab. I use it every day as it’s so easy , in the summer I hose off after riding with warm water as it’s kinder ( unless a really hot day obviously) and in the winter use warm water to hose legs. So I personally wouldn’t bother with buying an expensive horse one.

If you want actual hot water and decen water pressure, gas powered is the way to go. I have a Hippo electric shower and it's perfectly adequate for my needs but only gets to about 30c if you actually want to have enough pressure to get the suds out. The ponies do much prefer warm showers to cold though!

Hippo horse showers are the best and definitely fit for purpose and safe (the gas bottle is fully enclosed at the front so no way a horse can kick/bash into it. I've had mine nearly 10 years and it's still perfect 😀
Thanks all. I’m struggling to justify the cost of a Hippo, so I’m going to go with Showerking which I have seen on a previous thread also have good reviews 😊

We just have a regular caravan boiler permanently attached to the wall, cheap and cheerful but heats the water well (on the lowest gas setting it’s about 39/40 degrees which is perfect for washing) and while the pressures not amazing it’s plenty good enough for washing. Because it’s all set up I use it all the time, when I had one before on a sack trolley where you had to connect the gas etc each time I found it was more hassle than it was worth unless doing a full bath.

I have a cheap one. It was about £100 I think. It’s fine. It does the job and is hung on a wall just inside a farm shed. The horses are tied up to wash outside. This means that they can’t access the shower unit or gas so there is no danger there.
It’s perfectly adequate for my needs- one horse regularly washed in winter, others bathed occasionally in summer but mainly dogs hosed off daily after muddy winter walks.
I don’t know how long it will last, I was given a second hand one that lasted me 2 more years and this is the same brand. If it lasts me another 2/3 yr I’ll be happy.

You may as well save yourself a bit more money and buy one on eBay then.
There is absolutely nothing that matches the quality of Hippo, you do get what you pay for.
Absolutely if I could afford a Hippo I’d get one. But equally, by the time I’ve bought a cheaper boiler unit, all the hoses, connectors and regulator, spray head and a sack truck, it’s easier to just have it all supplied from one place.
