What are people's recommendations for instant calmers?

Looking for something to take the edge off my Thoroughbred for his first hunt meet of the season. He can get his knickers in a twist and once he gets himself hot and wound up it is quite hard to bring him back to me, so wondering if an instant calmer may just help keep a lid on the Thoroughbred brain. Thoughts?

Not sure there is a magic answer to this one tbh as suspect the craziness of a first hunt would override anything you can give him which still means he's rideable. I did use the naf instant magic once which is one you can use and still ride. A friend of mine uses Rescue Remedy for her horse and reckons it helps.

But I think you're best bet is slowly trying to condition him to set him up right for his first outing rather than trying to go for a quick fix calmer - the hunting part of this forum might have some good tips for that.

I've tried several (riding side saddle displays with fast group work, music etc. at agricultural/country shows is a big ask for a buzzy welshie) and EQ Confidence (gel you smear around their nostrils half an hour beforehand , it replicates the calming hormones mares give off around their foals apparently) has been by far the best. He's definitely more able to cope, work and relax with it and we've had good results trying it on other horses in the team too.

Valerian. It's obviously banned for competing because it works but for the purpose you want it for would be worth a shot. The James Hart V Calm liquid is instant, works within 20-30 mins and I really rate it. I only use it as and when needed, my pony is very sensitive and doesn't wind down easily either so it's worked a treat for us. Plus magnesium based calmers do nothing for him, infact I'm convinced they make him worse!
