I have recently bought a border collie puppy and was wondering what Insurance provider you knowledgeable peeps would recommend? My vet said that he felt in his "non biased" opinion

that Pet Plan were the best alround.

I have had a quote from them today but it was definitely one of the higher ones say compared with E&L etc.

So any thoughts??

The cheapest isn’t always the best, as you well know, You’re vet will only recommend the company that is up and coming with the cash when the claims are made, so quite possibly that ‘pet plan’ is expensive but I will bet you that they are the easiest top deal with when the time comes to make a claim.

NFU are very good and normally cheaper than Pet Plan. Their cover is also comparable to Pet Plan. I have never claimed from them, but have friends who have claimed and had no problems at all. ***Whispers I have never heard anything good about E&L (expect their cheap)***

avoid E&L with the longest bargepole you can find!

Petplan is one of the best - they pay us promptly without causing problems. My own dog is with Marks and Spencers. You need to compare policies closely - some companies only cover each condition for a year, like horse insurance. Other companies cover for life.

Petplan offer cover for life
I've always used them for my dogs and they have never quibbled. I pay about £15 a month for my 9 year old GSD. She has had tx for arthritis and conjunctivitis for 5 and 4 years respectedly which would have cost me nearly £100 a month ! I pay 2 excesses a year at total of £160+ monthly premium premium=£340 a year, her tx would have cost me approx £1200 a year so 'I save' £860 a year !!! If I had a 'approved' hydropool operator nearby they confirmed they would pay for this too.All in all I need to be confident that my animals have access to the best veterinary tx where cost is not an issue. Petplan fulfilled this role!
Shop wisely on this one!!!

I would avoid pet plan! Can't remember the last time i heard anything good about them! Friend had dog insured, paid his yearly premium and he died was told they would not refund her money!! Cant insure something that isn't alive!!
NFU are good and tesco's are brilliant! Also the kennel club! But search around

I use Tesco for my Rotty, it cost me £10 a month and they are really helpful when you take the policy out and will answer any question you ask even if you think it is silly.

My boy got run over last year car hit him while he was on the lead next to me. We were trying to cross the road. They were great paid up within 14 days and my premium didn't go up dramatically like i thought it would.

PetPlan NEVER! They were the worst with my horse and with my dogs!

I have tried quite a few and the best one would be Argos for me! All the problems I had with Isaac before he got P2S, when we called and asked for claim forms they were with us the next day, and we got our money back within one week.

With Petplan I was waiting for ages.

With Argos I pay £15 a month and that covers me for up to £6,000 worth of vets fees. with a £50 excess.

O yes I would avoid E&L too! they are CRAP! And do not pay out!

I've just remembered something else
It might be worth checking if your chosen company offer direct claims,i.e pay your vet directly so you don't have to pay vets first then claim your money back! If that makes sense! Some vets accept direct claims and some don't, some charge you for this service and some don't. I know Petplan will do a direct claim and also provide a ''direct claim authorisation form (I think it's called this!)'' so your vet is guaranteed her/his money!

My lad is with Directline and they were fantastic when we made a claim (over £2K I think) - they paid within 10 days. They don't have an unlimited life cover, but they have a life cover which will pay out up to 6K on any one incident.
