Not sure who are the best value insurers for dogs,, or if there are some to avoid..... just like in the horse insurance business.

Any views...... getting a new pup in a couple of weeks and want to keep her insured... also want to insure our existing dog who will be 8 in may

Depends.....petplan are good, settle quickly, but are pricey.
Pippa costs £18 a month (which is almost as much as the ginger ninja's insurance!) but you get a discount for additional dogs.

i handle insurance claims at the vets i work at. These are good generally:

Petplan,Kennel Club,Marks and Spencer,NFU (if you have a horse insured they'll insure your dog,no dog only insurance though), Tesco (sometimes rubbish though depending on case),Direct line are hit and miss,Animal health care are good too.

I'm with m&s. No probs with them and was easy to claim. Also their emergency helpline is very useful!

Tesco have always paid out for me but only offer 12 month policies. I'm now and have been for a few years with sainsburys for both cats and dogs, they offer a limit of about £6000 per condition (although I think that limit has just recently gone up!!) but no time limit on claiming, just once you reach the limit then that condition is not covered. Not much more expensive than the 12 month policy with tesco. and a lot cheaper than the petplan lifetime policies.
