Insurance is in and has to be renewed by today (was only sent to be here on friday..grr!)
Anyway, they're trying to exclude my boy's suspensory and deep flexor tendons and supensory ligament on both back legs? Even though he only slightly injured a suspensory on on back leg. Is this reasonable?
also, any suggestions for good cheap insurers? Thanks!

Standard practise but I'm waiting on the vet to ring me back to discuss if that is reasonable before I call them to give off, surely excluding random bits of anatomy and both legs is unfair? *ps. sorry, not ranting at you..at the insurance company :O

i dunno about cheap but we use equestrian direct and they have been very good and also yes unfortutantly they did tht with my mare and eliminated both of her tendons cuz she did a slight strain on her sursponsary i think its cuz they want to try and blame in on compensating

stupid really

my mothers horse had an op on it's knee and only has that leg excluded not both front legs.

I am with e&l I know some people don't think they are that hot but have made one claim for a sarcoid and they were quick and paid my vet without any problems. He now obvs has sarcoids excluded from his policy.

right, retrack, he's either going with the original one or not being insured at all. Now, I am a Pony Club member, an Eventing Ireland member, am I right in saying Pony Club will cover me for personal accident and public liability?
Thanks!
This is confusing one must say!

Your insurers should only exclude the tendons and ligaments of the hind leg in question.

I have an exclusion for this on my policy with AmTrust Equine and they confirmed that on a hind leg the strain on the other leg is less severe and therefore it is not necessary to exclude both legs. On a front leg if a horse does a tendon, they would exclude the tendons and ligaments of both legs as the strain is greater.

They are very good and gave me a really good price including loss of use!

re ellie_girls comments, after all the bad press about equestrian direct on here and in the mag last week im not sure i would go with them.

Hope this helps.

are you with petplan by any chance?! i had endless problems with them, my lists of exclusions was growing ridiculously for things we never claimed for as we were on the higher excess. they were totally incompetent.. mum sent of cheque in good timing but as their post backlog was over 2months long they didnt acknowledge it.. so got letters saying they have cancelled policy etc, and even got another policy cancellation when they had cashed the cheque! also had a lot of claims dealings with my old horse- they do pay for mri but even if u ring them and request with all current vet info they will not say they will pay it until it has been done, and an mri is something we couldnt afford for them not to pay. also when they sent us another claim form, i was one sent saying 'what animal are you claiming for: a cat, dog or rabbit..' i really wouldnt recommend them- nfu are so much better from the short time we have been with them with correspondence etc.#
also our policy prices for 2 horses went up after a year! for my second horse they said they had given me an introductory discount and that no longer applied, and the cost had risen. but it rose ALOT and we have never claimed for this horse or had a vet out in the year.. so nfu were much cheaper!

NFU, Petplan, SEIB. But yes unfortunately this is standard practice. If your horse is sound on them after three years i think you can argue your case and have full vetting etc to confirm soundness so all is not lost. But premiums will be high now if you made a claim unfortunately! :-(
