My mare was diagnosed with 'broken back goof pastern axis' (basically coffin joint pain) 4 years ago and have had lameness problems on and off ever since. I tried various joint supplements, none of which made any difference until I switched onto Maxavita's Maxaflex a couple of years ago,l which seemed to work really well - she's been completely sound all this winter for a good 6 months but does tend to go lame when the ground gets hard and is pretty lame at the moment as I've run out and unable to get hold of anymore due to a manufacturing issue so I don't have a clue what to try next!

I know Maxaflex has Green Lipped Muscle in so looking for something similar or anything else people have had good results with?

Any advice would be very welcome!

Yumove active joint has worked very well for my horse who has DJS in both hocks. I used Cosequin for years, but it seemed to stop working and after some trial and error I had great results with Yumove.

It's funny you should say YuMove I have literally just been reading about it and it looks like it might help! I'm tempted to give that a go.

Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Yumove made a big difference to my horse. He went from being very flat in his trot to suddenly getting his massive, pingy trot back (lots natural elevation!!) and was full of it! He felt like he did 3 years ago, which was lovely. He only hacks now, but I did think at the time I could have taken him out and done a prelim, although I didn't.

I don't think Suppleaze gold has GLM in from what I've read? Are the results good on it though?

I don't think it does but my 20 year old is doing very well on it, have seen an improvement since taking it (no issues, just a little stiff but still in full work including jumping)

I use Maxaflex and just seen that no one has it in stock so hope it comes back into stock before I run out.

The other one as well as Yumove that has GLM is one by Nupafeed, never used it as Maxaflex always offered the best value for money in terms of levels of GLM.

If you are going down the route of a standard MSM, Glucosamine, Chondroitin (instead of GLM) with poss HA; When I used them have found that suppleze gold or the red horse complete offered good value for money. However you have to feed at the loading dose. Many supplements out there have the right ingredients in the right proportions but the recommended/maintenance dose doesn't give enough. This means that the manufacturers can say up to 60 days supply when the reality is that for a big horse on loading dose, it might be 15 days.
You should be looking for about 10mg glucosamine and 4 of chondroitin,

I was gutted when I couldn't get hold of Maxa flex - most places are saying out of stock for 3-6 months - I think there is a manufacturing fault.

I'd quite like to keep to one with GLM as Maxaflex worked so well. I also saw Nupafeed just not sure which one to use.

I've had issues recently with scoops being different sizes so wonder if that it the 'fault'. I did email them querying this but didn't hear back.

I could only see GLM Flex from Nupafeed as the GLM option.

It says in stock on the Maxavita website, is that not accurate. I know it's more expensive there but it still looks like it would work out cheaper than Yumove which is close in terms of ingredients. Nupafeed is a different blend.

I think what I might do then is buy a basic Glucosamine/MSM blend and add in the Pernamax tablets from Maxavita for the GLM.

Speak to Alex at Hack-Up bespoke, my horses have various formulations from them, they will make a product bespoke to your horse and it's needs.

I was just going to ask as well about this.

I to converted to Maxaflex and cant get hold of it anywhere. Ive emailed them but no reply and no number on their website.

Watching recommendations with interest.

I feed horse turmeric & also arthriaid HA.
He's been on turmeric for ages and we started with arthriaid HA after his accident. Will be staying on it, it seems to have the nearest correct levels of glucosamine/ha/chondrition for what I can afford :)
