Hiya,

my mare is a little stiff in her hind legs, (her back, teeth and saddle have been done and all sorted), so I was thinking about getting her a suppliment.

I heard that the majority are designed for older horses, is there one that is best for younger horses? Or is it best to just give her a smaller amount of one for older horses?

She's not robotic stiff, but it is noticable.

Thank you :)

By and large, hind leg stiffness in an 8yo is not likely to be caused by the 'general wear and tear' that joint supplements aim to remedy (and their effectiveness at this is debatable). It is very probably caused by prior injury, hard work as a youngster or bone spavin.

As she is noticeably stiff, I'd second wonky_donky's advice and have the vet see her. If possible, ask the vet to bring a portable x-ray machine when they come out, as if the vet does think that the hocks are the issue then you can get the x-rays taken there and then without having to incur a second call-out fee.
