I'm looking for a jumping saddle which is close contact, with lots of support (youngster has a very extravagant jump!!). Especially like those with generous blocks and long girth straps - does anybody know who manufactures them like this? If not, suggestions on favourite jumping saddles welcome.

well, i start with makes that i know are generally believed to be very comfy for the horse, which narrows it right down, and then the choice is further limited by what suits your length of leg etc. so, it's difficult to say what would suit you.
Ideal saddles are a good place to start, they will do them exactly as you want, as regards materials, etc. some choice of size and position of blocks too.
i'd have a good look at Barnsby saddles too.
a lot of people really rate Butet and Devoucoux saddles too, not blocky but v secure.

My Butet is v v secure for me but I have one with no blocks at all. It suits me as it's what I'm used to riding in (flat hunting saddles/half tree race exercise saddles etc.) and if I was riding a dodgy youngster I'd always take it with me.

I suspect from your description that it wouldn't necessarily be what you are looking for. Though you can get them with blocks I don't think you'd ever describe them as 'blocky'.

The Albions look to have a bit more block to them, though I've never ridden in one and I think Ideal can pretty much put whatever you want on a saddle. A lot of the single flap saddles are designed to XC rather than SJ though a lot of SJers use them now so look for one which is designed more with this in mind.

I'm currently trialing an Albion Kontact & I LOVE it!

I feel very safe & secure in it. It's not a single flap but doesn't feel bulky under my leg where the girth straps are. It's a 17 1/2 & really I could do with a 16 1/2 or 17 but I'm surprised how comfy I am in it.

I've tried quite a few different makes recently & there was a Harry Dabbs which was nice too whereas the prestige I tried made me feel really perched, like I was tipping forwards the whole time.

I don't think you're ever sure 'til you've sat in the saddle on your own horse. I used to ride my friends horse in her Albion Kontact & hated it so much I swore I'd never have an Albion on mine but now I'm having to eat my words.

Antares - Found mine to be brilliant also have youngster with extravegant jump. Very very comfy for horse and rider also very secure. Not single flap but mine came with long girth straps which it went to france to get changed. We have switched from Devacoux to Antares.

i'd say an albion kontact xc...i have one on the rocket man and its saved my life on many an occasion (god bless those thigh blocks

I love my excelle integra it has a mono flap for closeness and good blocks with long girth straps, I use it for sj and xc and gives you alovely safe feeling when over a fence. It has the same design as the Amerigo but without the price tag!

I love my Albion Kontrol, which saved me many a times, i had the knee blocks stitched in (they are removable) however i found this then restricting when i had a more honest horse and wanted to hitch my stirrups up, so have now bought a butet, and would never buy anything else, when my budget allows i will be upgrading my dressage saddle too! I have a Bates Innova needing a home if anyone is interested pm me!
