Hi all, so having a little debate with friends, and wondered what you all thought.

What is best for leg protection whilst travelling?

I've always used shaped boots; I like hock/knee protection and they're much easier and quicker to put on. Whilst out and about BEing this season I noted lots if people seemed to be using pads and bandages, so what is best to use?

Slow gin and after eights on offer :)

I prefer fitted boots as they are tougher than bandages and gamgee. Also find them easier to put on and take off when dealing with a bouncing excited young horse.

I use travel boots on the front and gamgee with bandages on the back as my mare tore her boots when she slipped in the trailer. She seems happier with less bulk on her hinds and finds it easier to balance without treading on the boots

Thanks all.

No it was def bandages and pads as they were arriving! I do think they give better support so I suppose better for afterwards.
My horse tended to lift his hinds rather dramatically so I did wonder whether bandages might be better behind. Plus my back fitted boots tend to slip as he stomps about.

With all my horses I used to boot with the Mark Todd or Woof wear travel boots, until my current one. He will not tolerate travel boots, and does not like bandages, so I simply boot him with his XC boots, including 4 overreach boots and we are fine. I tried hock and knee boots and he hated those too. So far easier to let him wear normal ones. In those he travelled quietly in any other configuration he would stress, and I figured was more likely to damage himself through stomping around

I use boots on 3 of mine ,bandages on 1 and nothing on the last one.

The 3 older horses seem fine with boots ,the youngster is happier in bandages but I have a mare that does not like anything on her legs. I use to have in the past boots on her but she did not like them so I tried bandages. A couple of years ago she became a bad traveller so I took the bandages off and she is much happier.
