It's my birthday in June

and ive asked mum if i can have my first pair of long riding boots! she told me that i have to research which ones are the best (value for money, hard-wearing etc) so need a few tips! in your opinion which boots should i be getting!?!

I love my Mountain Horse Sportive High Riders. They're really comfortable and they've lasted ages. I've had my current pair for over 3 years and they've got plenty of wear left in them!

I have Petrie boots and love them, but save them only for competing and special occasions - they are more of a dressage boot, though I'd jump in them too. Have competed Dressage, SJ and Showing, inc working hunter in them. I got them for my 18th birthday, like you I had to wait for long boots (also my birthday in June!) and that was nearly 5 years ago now so they're lasting well!

I've got a pair and yes there are lovely boots, such a nice cut and fit and very lady like boots, however the stitching has come undone near the ankle but there holding up ok!, certainly would buy another pair again, fab boots!

Love the Mountain Horse Sportive High Riders, however, I have rencelty noticed a slight leak. Cotinually hear about problems regarding the zips. At first I thought my calves were too fat, but when I checked the fit, they are a bit loose so there is no stretch on the zips.

I find them very comfy though and they polish up very well for shows

My Cavallo Winner Plus boots are gorgeous. So soft and comfortable (took half a dozen wears for them to soften though). I would definitely buy them again. They have a dressage top but are equally suitable for SJ or anything really. Probably not a showing boot as they don't have a garter strap (what with the dressage top).

just looked them up and they look amazing!

ariats all the way have just purchased a pair of bromonts and they are truely fab and very comfy wouldn't touch mountain horse with a barge pole

i have sarm hippique ones for comps. they were nearly £500 but amazingly soft and comfy. i have short wide fitting and very few boots come in my size so i always have to pay a lot of money. still, if you look after them they last for years. i wear mountain horse round the farm and for everyday use- the zips do give in eventually but only after being hammered every day for 2 years i've found!

I've got ariat bromonts that are insulated - they've been so comfy and warm - now I've read that they are doing a non-insulated version for the summer - can I afford 2 pairs? They are more expensive!

I have the Cavallos too and they are very comfortable but the zips are rubbish and have been replaced about 4 times on each leg in 4 years. I think it is the sweat from the horse that does it. They are dressage style but the leather is so soft I have converted them to sj/showing style boots by folding over the dressage bit so they are straight all the way round and adding my own garter straps. They are not a shiny, hard sort of leather (though they do polish up well) and hence not slippy and give a good, close contact grip.

I hunt in much the same country as you and my feet are often freezing in them in winter! Reading about the insulated Ariat Bromonts in this thread, I am thinking about getting some of them. But my main thing is showing and jumping so I would choose comfort and the Cavallos over insulation if I were only going for one pair of boots.
