Further to my previous post I realize that I am going to have to lunge for the next 4 weeks!!

So may as well make the best of a job both horse and I hate and make him work a bit as well.
What is the best lunging aid to use? Bear in mind I currently don't have a saddle (hence the lunging).
Thankee kindly.

Last horse was great in the pessoa, this one hates it and after pursuing it for ages, gave up. Now use the Lungie Bungie by the Fredericks and so far so good, easy to use and my horse works nicely in it.

Thanks ever so much. It would seem that everyone is recommending the most expensive aid going!!

Oh well hubby will just have to grit his teeth as well.
Bumbles off to shop on the Internet.

Before you shop have a look at the Kavalcade HO (google kavalcade ho lunging- comes up on a schokesomething site), its less than half the price of the pessoa and gets them working from behind in a lovely outline. It was recommended to me by a girl on our yard who rides with the british dressage team and I think its fab. My vet approves of it too and said if my man needs a kissin spine op it will be great for helping his rehab....

The John Whittiker training aid is the same as the passoa and cheaper plus it comes with the roller. I got a copy of a passoa from my saddler for a fraction of the price and it came with a roller - yipppeeeee -

I agree with ribena, I have just bought the kavalkade and it is so simple and quick to use the horse hero website shows it being used in the training section.

Personally I dislike the pessoa, I've yet to see it truly encourage a horse to engage behind (not saying I never will, just that I haven't yet).

What I have seen is that it appears that due to the fact that the mouth of the horse appears to be attached to his back legs, every step he takes jabs him in the mouth. so to avoid this he drops behind the contact onto the forehand letting his hock trail along behind doing the minumum possible.

Perhaps I've only seen pessoas misused though.

Personally I like to lunge in a bowling line which runs from the bit, between the front legs, over the back, back through the front legs and back to the bit again.

JMHO
