Best make for horse box....

I'm thinking of getting a horsebox to carry up to 16.2 non HGV. Only have limited budget though so will prob have to be something older. There seems to be so many makes.models etc and I know some are more reliable than others so can advise on whats good and whats not please!

I have just been through this and also on a limited budget. It seems among the lorry fraternity that the Cummings diesel engine is reckoned the most reliable, usually fitted in Leyland Daf Roadrunners. I was told to avoid Bedfords cos spares are running out apparently.

I have just bought a Leyland Daf Roadrunner for £4 000 F Reg and I am happy with it it isn't any oil painting and we will need to slowly go through it but I didn't really see any cheaper. I bought from a dealer cos I know nothing so it gives me fall back
 
just sold my ford cargo 813 f reg for £3,000.
All I can say is I loved that lorry.
Totally reliable- always starts first time- smooth running on air brakes lovely lovely lovely!
 
OH says most lorries are Cummings engines (I know diddly squat about engines so will take his word for it)We have had a Bedford and Ford cargo.Bedford was a great reliable lorry,Cargo was also reliable but bodywork tends to give out before engine,quite prone to rust in cab.
Ivecos/daf/merc all good I believe tho was told that mercs tend to be heavier.
 
My old lorry was an MAN - very easy to get parts for. Was very reliable and nice little lorry, only sold it as wanted to upgrade to something with a bigger living and more space. Now have a Ford Iveco - only had it about 5 weeks but so far has started first time everytime, is really nice to drive - would definately recommend an Iveco

My cousins mechanic said only to look at MANs, Ivecos or Leyland Dafs...however, other people might disagree with that

We have a B reg Ford 813 gonna be up for sale shortly! hehe. However, sadly cab is going and we have decided (after it's just failed it's MOT and is gonna need some work doing) that that's it. It's been fab in the 10/11 years we've had it but sadly age is taking it's toll and yes the Fords do have a rep for the cabs rusting and also hard to get parts for the older ones now.

We are downsizing a bit as ours in 2 horse/3 pony 7.5T and,as my sister can't drive it without taking another test we've decided to go for a smaller 2 horse 3.5T. If you are looking for a 7.5T I think the Fords are good but you struggle with parts now but also MAN's seem v popular.
 
I am also looking for a lorry at the moment but fingers crossed have just found one

would just like to add that Mercs go on forever and that Dafs are meant to be the easiest to drive.
