I have a rising 2 palomino show pony and am looking to invest in something to use on his long mane and tail to keep it tangle free and well conditioned. Any recommendations? Looking at Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine but it's pretty expensive. I know a little goes a long way, etc., but anything else a bit cheaper? Thanks. :)

I like canter mane and tail. There have been a lot of posts about mega tek in addition to strengthen but not used it myself. Someone on my yard has though and it smells lovely :-)

Personally i love robinsons own brand mane and tail spray, its great stuff, cheap and smells good :D failing that pig oil also does the job

I like canter and mane and tail too. I bought a bottle of expensive stuff (can't remember what it was called now, but cost me £15) and it was absolutely rubbish!! So I'm going back to mane and tail, much better than any of the expensive rubbish.

I use Mark Todd competition silk... works really well at detangling as I'm not a huge fan of brushing her tail incase loads falls out! Plus smells all coconutty :) Super cheap too.

Canter. I've not found anything else that works as well - and it's not ridiculously expensive either. Having said that, although Kal's tail is long, it isn't excessively full . . . not skimpy, but not really thick . . . so I don't need to use that much.

I'm using Cowboy Magic at the moment for the first time and think it works very well and smells nice too BUT I don't think it's any more special than Canter mane & nail for example. Although if your like me and try to avoid brushing his tail I prefer Cowboy Magic and it's not a spray so easier to work through his tail with my fingers!

Thanks all for the replies. I too like Canter Mane & Tail spray, been using it for donkey's years. Just used the last dribble from my last bottle and was figuring I should try something more modern. Perhaps not then, although I'll look at the other suggestions too.

PS: I already feed FF linseed meal and use Pig Oil, although I do find the oil is a magnet for trapping dust.
